This American Apparel, I tell ya, they sure know how to stir the pot. They put out these ads, you know, the kind that make you look twice. Some folks, they don’t like ’em. Say they’re too much. Too much skin, too much this, too much that. I don’t know, seems to me like they just want to sell clothes.
They got these young girls in the American Apparel ads, lookin’ all dolled up, or sometimes, not so dolled up. Some people say it’s not right. They say these ads, they’re, how you say, “too sexy.” Like they are showing too much. But hey, those girls, they gotta make a livin’ too, right?

Well, this company, American Apparel, they been around for a while. Then they got into some trouble. Some big boss, that Charney fella, he got fired. They say he was not nice to the girls who work there. Say he did things he shouldn’t oughta done.
They say he was doing some bad things, like, you know, touchy-feely things, saying nasty stuff, being racist and such. They don’t allow that kind of thing. Not anymore. So they kicked him out, that Charney, and good riddance, I say.
So this company, they had to close a bunch of their stores, a whole bunch of ’em, all over the world. Heard they hadn’t made any money in years. I guess people were too busy being mad about the ads to buy the clothes. Can you believe it?

Now, these American Apparel ads, they get banned sometimes. Means they can’t show ’em no more. Some folks, they got a lot of power, they say “No sir, you can’t show that.” And that’s that.
One time, I saw one of those ads, it was a young girl, she was wearin’ nothin’ but a little shirt, and she was layin’ down, lookin’ all, you know, come-hither. I guess some people thought that was too much. I don’t know, she looked cold to me.
But that’s the thing with these American Apparel ads controversy, everyone’s got an opinion. Some people like ’em, some people hate ’em. Me, I just think it’s a lot of fuss over nothin’. Clothes is clothes. People wear ’em, people buy ’em. What’s the big deal?

This Charney fella, he was the big boss man. They say he started that company, made it real big. But then he went and messed it all up, with his bad behavior. They say that’s why the company went belly up. That’s what happens when you don’t treat people right. You lose everything.
And those ads, they just kept on causin’ trouble, even after Charney was gone. Some people, they just can’t let things go. They gotta complain about somethin’. I guess that’s just the way of the world.
That company, American Apparel, they are gone now. Shut down. All those stores, empty. All those people out of work. It’s a shame, really. All because of some pictures. Pictures that some folks didn’t like.
That Charney guy, he’s doing something else now. I heard he’s working for some other fella, a rapper, or something like that. Maybe he learned his lesson. Maybe he’ll be nice to people now. Who knows?

I’m just an old lady, watching the world go by. Just remember, treat people right and don’t make such a big fuss about nothin’. And maybe, just maybe, wear a little more clothes when it’s cold outside. It’s better than getting sick, you know. And don’t be sayin’ mean things to people. It ain’t right. That’s all I gotta say about that American Apparel ads controversy. That’s my two cents, anyways.
