That Hodinkee, you know, that place, they used to buy up old watches. Yeah, the kind folks wear on their wrists. Big or small, shiny or dull, they’d take ’em. Used to be, they’d buy anything. Now they say they ain’t buyin’ no more of them pre-owned things. What a mess!

I heard they joined up with some other folks, Crown and Caliber, I think they called it. Big, fancy name. They was all about them used watches, fixin’ ’em up, makin’ ’em look all pretty again. They said every watch was “100% real.” Big deal. I know a real watch when I see one. It’s a place call “Hodinkee shop” now. But it doesn’t sound good.

Now, I heard that Hodinkee sell watch things aren’t so good. They made a bad choice. It seems like they are losing money. People used to bring ’em their old watches, you know. Grandpa’s old ticker, maybe. They’d give you some money for it. Not much, mind you, but somethin’. Now, who knows what they’re doin’. Times are tough and everything is so expensive.

They say that the kind of watch you got makes a difference. Some of them old watches are worth more than others. If it’s some fancy brand, like Rolex, or Omega, or maybe even a Tag Heuer. Those are the ones folks want. Some rich people like to collect them. You could maybe sell it on your own for more. Or maybe not. It is not easy for us. You never know.

But if it’s just some old thing, nothin’ special, then it ain’t worth much. And if it’s all busted up, well, forget about it. Even if it is a luxury watch. Nobody wants a broken watch. They also check if your watch is real or not. So complicated! I don’t know why people need so many rules to sell a watch.

  • If it’s a fancy brand, you might get more money.
  • If it’s all beat up, you won’t get much.
  • Hodinkee used to buy them watches, but not anymore.
  • They mixed up with some other folks, Crown and Caliber.
  • They say they only sell real watches, no fakes.

I heard some folks say they sold their watches to that Crown and Caliber place before. Said they got the watch in the mail, looked it over, and then sent the money. I guess it was an alright deal. Some folks were happy. Others said it wasn’t worth it and the service wasn’t good. You can’t please everybody.

I don’t know much about these things, but it seems like a lot of trouble just to sell an old watch. Back in my day, you just wore your watch till it stopped tickin’, then you got a new one. Simple as that. Or you just pass it to your kids. Nowadays everything is business.

But these young folks, they like all these fancy things. They like to read about them watches online, on that Hodinkee website. They got all sorts of stories about them. Where to find them, how to fix them, and who knows what else.

Some folks even sell them on other websites. They say you can get a better price that way. Maybe you can, maybe you can’t. It’s like them farmer’s markets. You gotta haggle and see what you can get. I just want to sell my stuff at a good price. A fair price. That’s all.

They used to make a lot of money, that Hodinkee place. I heard it was like $100 million. A lot of money, that is. Then it went down to $70 million. Still a lot of money, but less. I don’t know what happened. Maybe folks just stopped buyin’ so many watches. I don’t know why they stopped buying pre-owned watches. It was a bad decision.

Now they say they sold that Crown and Caliber part. Didn’t work out, I guess. Just like when you plant them tomatoes and they don’t grow. Gotta try somethin’ else. That’s life. But they are still selling new watches, I think. Maybe you can still get a good watch from them. But I don’t know if it’s worth it.

I guess if you got an old watch you want to sell, you gotta do some lookin’ around. See who’s buyin’ and what they’re offerin’. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Don’t get yourself cheated neither. And maybe, if you are lucky, you can still sell it to Hodinkee. Maybe.
