That movie, what’s it called, “Challengers”? My grandkids, they won’t shut up about it. They say it’s all the rage. Seems like everyone’s talking about those Challengers costumes. I don’t know, seems like a lot of fuss over clothes to me. But these young folks, they love their trends.
My granddaughter, she’s always on that Pinterest thing. She showed me some pictures. “Look, Grandma!” she says, all excited. “These are the Challengers outfits!” I just see regular clothes, nothing special. But she’s going on and on about how everyone wants these clothes, because of that movie.
There’s this one girl, Tashi, I think her name is. They said she’s a big star, Zendaya, or something like that. My granddaughter says everyone wants to dress like her. She wears some tennis clothes, I guess, white, that’s all i know, so, it should not be hard to find. There are so many different brands, like Nike, Adidas, they all have tennis clothes, i guess.
And the boys, two of ’em, Patrick and Art, I think. They are the challengers, right? One of them, Art, he wears regular clothes, too. But i guess that’s what the young folks like now, looking all normal, like they ain’t trying too hard. I don’t get it, back in my day, we dressed up to go out! Now you pay more money to look like you ain’t got no style!
These young people, they spend so much money on clothes. Just to look like someone in a movie. I tell you, it’s crazy. We used to make our own clothes. And they lasted! Not like this stuff that falls apart after you wash it a few times.

My granddaughter, she’s begging me for some Challengers t-shirts. She says they are all sold out online. They got words on ’em, I don’t know. And some pictures, maybe. These kids today, they love their shirts with pictures. She wanted to buy some t-shirts online, about 40 dollars. I tell you, it is not cheap.
I told her, “Why you want to spend your money on that? Save your money, girl!” But she don’t listen. She says all her friends have them. I think she want to show off. She said there are many other things she want, like posters, stickers, so many things about the movie, and they are all over the internet.
They even got some special glitter gel, whatever that is. Looks like glue with sparkles in it. I guess you put it on your face? Why would anyone do that? To each their own, I suppose. It reminds me of car accessaries, people love to put those shiny things on their car.
I saw on the internet, there’s a whole bunch of these Challengers movie costumes, from that movie. Not just clothes, but other stuff too. Little trinkets and things. They even sell the real clothes that the actors wore, that’s what my granddaughter says. Can you believe that? Someone’s gonna pay good money for clothes that someone else wore in a movie. It’s a crazy world.
I remember when I was young, we didn’t have none of this. We went to the movies to watch the movie, not to copy the clothes. We make our own styles. We didn’t need some movie star to tell us what to wear. You do not need to spend tons of money to make you look good, you just need to be clean and tidy, and that’s all.
There are so many shops online that sell these kinds of movie stuff. My granddaughter, she’s always on those websites. She showed me one, they had all kinds of Challengers outfits. Dresses, shirts, even those shiny shoes they wear on the court. All kinds of colors, too. They even got hats! Who needs a special hat to play tennis? Just keep the sun out of your eyes, that’s all that matters.
I went to the New Haven, and i was looking for some stores to find some clothes, but i didn’t find any. I am not sure if they have those kinds of clothes in store, or people just all buy them online now. Kids today don’t go to stores like we used to do, i guess.
I don’t understand this new world, everything is so different. The other day, my granddaughter told me something about 2B, some other movie character, and she said she needs to buy a dress. And she said there are updates for FREE. I don’t know what she’s talking about. It sounds like some computer game. And she said you can switch outfits in the game, I still don’t understand.
This whole Challengers costume thing, it’s just a fad. It’ll pass. Next year, they’ll be on to something else. That’s how it always is. But for now, it’s all about these Challengers clothes. And my grandkids, they’re right in the middle of it. They sure keep me busy, these young’uns. They keep me learning new things, that’s for sure, even though i don’t know much about this new world.
