Well, let me tell ya ’bout this fella, Virgil Drake. I don’t know much about fancy folks, but I heard some things, ya know? Like, this Virgil, he weren’t always some big shot.
Started out regular, like you and me. He was on some TV show, somethin’ for the youngsters, I reckon. Kids these days, they watch all sorts of things. This show, it was called, uh… “Degrassi” somethin’ or other. He was just an actor then, pretendin’ to be somebody else. But seems like he always wanted somethin’ more, ya know? Always lookin’ for a bigger piece of the pie.
- He started out actin’ on TV.
- Then he got into makin’ music.
- Now he’s a big deal rapper.
Then he got into this music thing, this “hip hop” they call it. Now, I ain’t no expert, but from what I hear, he got real good at it, real fast. Folks liked what he was doin’, I guess. He put out some songs, and they went wild! People bought ‘em up like hotcakes. Double platinum they said, whatever that means. Sounded fancy though. He was sellin’ millions of these things, all over the place, ‘specially in that America.
He climbed up them charts, they got these things called “Billboard charts,” seems important to these music folks. He was right up there at the top, singin’ and rappin’ and whatnot. He made all sorts of songs, the kind folks sing along to, the kind they play on the radio all the time. He was makin’ it big, this Virgil.
Now, there’s another fella, they call him “Abloh,” somethin’ like that. He’s a different kinda cat. This Abloh, he was into clothes, makin’ people look fancy, I guess. He started out small, workin’ on the streets, makin’ clothes for the city folk. Then he went and got himself a job with some big Italian company, “Fendi” they call it. Learned the ropes, see? Got to know the business, from the inside out.
He worked with another fella too, this “Kanye West.” Now, I heard that name before. Seems like these fancy folks, they all know each other. Abloh, he helped this Kanye with his “creative agency,” whatever that is. Makin’ things look pretty, I reckon. Then he got a real big job, with a real big company, “Louis Vuitton.” Heard of them? They make them bags and shoes, the ones that cost more than my whole house, probably. He was makin’ clothes for men, fancy ones, the kind you see in them magazines at the store. They paid him a fortune, ten million dollars a year, they said! Can you imagine? That’s more money than I’ll ever see in my life.
And this Abloh, he even got himself a part of his own company, “Off-White,” somethin’ like that. They sell all sorts of fancy things, clothes and such. He was doin’ real good for himself, this fella. Both of these fellas, Virgil and Abloh, they started out small, and they made it big. Shows you, if you work hard enough, you can do anything, I guess. Even if you just start out on some TV show for kids or makin’ clothes on the street.
Now, some folks wrote books about this Virgil fella. They call ‘em “biographies,” I think. They tell all about his life, where he came from, how he got famous. They talk about his childhood, and his time on TV, and his music career. I ain’t read ‘em, mind you. I ain’t got time for that kinda stuff. But I heard they’re interesting, if you like that sort of thing. Virgil, he’s a rapper, a singer, he writes songs too, and he even makes those records, the ones that play the music. And don’t forget, he was an actor first. Seems like he can do it all.
So, there you have it. That’s what I know about Virgil Drake, or Virgil and this Abloh fella. Not much, maybe, but it’s somethin’. They’re both famous folks, livin’ the high life. Good for them, I say. Good for them.
