Alright, alright, let’s talk about this… uh… 90s layering, they call it. Back in my days, we just called it puttin’ on clothes, but I guess these young folks gotta make everything fancy.

So, this 90s style, it’s like, you wear a bunch of stuff, one on top of the other. Like, you know, you got your T-shirt, then maybe you put a long-sleeve shirt over it. Sounds simple enough, right? But these fashion people, they got all sorts of rules, or whatever you call ’em.
First thing they talk about is denim. Denim everything! Jackets, pants, even them… overall things. We wore a lot of denim back then, but not ‘cause it was fashionable, it’s just ‘cause it lasted long, you know? You could work in it, go to town in it, do just about anything in it. Nowadays, they wear ripped-up denim, cost a fortune, makes no sense to me.
- You wanna layer? Okay, start with the thin stuff. Like a tank top, or a regular shirt.
- Then you put somethin’ thicker on top. A sweater, maybe, or one of them… hoodies. Keeps you warm, that’s for sure.
They also talk about these slip dresses. Little thin things. Back then, we wore ‘em under our clothes, like a slip, you know? But now, they wear ‘em right out in the open, with a shirt underneath. Crazy, huh? But I guess if you’re young and skinny, you can get away with it. If I wore that, Lord have mercy, I’d look like a busted sausage.
Then there’s this thing about short sleeves and long sleeves together. You put a short-sleeve shirt on, then a long-sleeve shirt on top. Seems backwards to me, but what do I know? They say it looks cool, like those supermodels from back in the day. Those girls could wear anything and look good, though. Me? I’d just look like I got dressed in the dark.
And they talk about “proportions” and “balance”. Don’t ask me what that means. I guess it’s like, making sure your clothes don’t make you look too… lumpy, or something. You want things to fit right, not too tight, not too loose. Just comfortable, that’s what I say. Comfort is king, or queen, whatever you wanna call it.

They also got these… cropped cardigans. Little short sweaters. We had cardigans back then, sure, but they weren’t so… skimpy. Kept your arms warm, at least. Nowadays, they just look like they shrunk in the wash. But hey, fashion ain’t about makin’ sense, it’s about lookin’ good, or so they tell me.
So, if you wanna do this 90s layering thing, here’s what I reckon you do: Get yourself some jeans, some t-shirts, some long-sleeve shirts, maybe a sweater or a jacket. And then just… put ‘em on. Mix and match, see what looks good. Don’t overthink it. And if someone tells you you look silly, just tell ‘em you’re bringin’ back the 90s. They might not know what you’re talkin’ about, but at least you’ll sound like you know what you’re doin’.
And don’t go spendin’ a fortune on this stuff. You can find good clothes at the thrift store, or even in your own closet. Just gotta be creative, that’s all. Fashion ain’t about money, it’s about… well, I don’t really know what it’s about, but it sure ain’t about money. It’s about feelin’ good in what you’re wearin’, I guess. And stayin’ warm, that’s important too.
So, there you have it. My take on this 90s layering thing. Probably not what them fancy fashion folks would say, but it’s the truth, as far as I can see it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go put on some clothes. Probably just gonna wear my old jeans and a flannel shirt, though. Comfortable, that’s the way to go.
