Timex Gold Watch Vintage: Check Out These Hot Classic Styles!

by Marvin Connie

Okay, so today I want to talk about this Timex gold watch vintage thing I’ve been messing with. It all started when I was digging through some old stuff at a flea market a few weeks back. I’m a sucker for vintage stuff, you know? And there it was, tucked away in a box of junk – this old Timex watch, gold-colored, looked like it had seen better days.

First thing I did was wind it up, just to see if it would even tick. No battery in this baby, it’s all mechanical. And you know what? It started right up! A little rough, but ticking. That’s when I decided, this thing needs some love.

Cleaning

  • Got my little cleaning kit out – you know, the kind you use for glasses or camera lenses.
  • Started with the outside, just wiping off the years of grime.
  • Took the band off – it was one of those stretchy metal ones – and gave that a good scrub too.

Now, I’m no watch expert, but I figured I could at least get it looking a bit nicer. The crystal was all scratched up. So, I did some googling – found out you can use toothpaste to buff out scratches on these old watch crystals. Seriously! Who knew? Spent a good hour just gently polishing that crystal with toothpaste and a soft cloth. It actually worked! Most of the scratches came right out.

Polishing

  • Toothpaste trick – worked like a charm for the crystal!
  • Used a bit of metal polish on the gold parts.
  • Buffed it all up with a soft cloth.

After that, I tackled the gold-colored parts. A little bit of metal polish and some elbow grease, and it started to shine again. It wasn’t perfect, mind you. There are still some dings and scratches, but that’s part of its charm, right? It’s got character! There is a reference number on the back of the dial. After searching on the internet, I found that this watch was made at least decades ago!

Then, I wound it up again and just watched it tick away. It’s not just a watch; it’s like a little piece of history on my wrist. I’ve been wearing it every day since, and I just love it. It keeps decent time, although I do have to wind it every morning. But that’s part of the fun, I guess. It’s a little ritual now. I looked it up online, and some of these old Timex watches can go for a decent amount, you know? But this one? This one’s not for sale. I’ll use it for more than ten years.

So, that’s my little vintage Timex adventure. It’s amazing what a little cleaning and polishing can do. And it’s a good reminder that sometimes, the old things are the best things. And it made me feel like I’d accomplished something, you know? Like I’d brought this little watch back to life.
