Rolex Plural: A Collectors Guide to Owning Multiple Rolex Watches

by Alice Browne

Well, let me tell ya, this here Rolex thing, it ain’t just one watch, you know? It’s more than that. People call ’em Rolexes, yeah, with an “es” at the end. Sounds fancy, but it’s just how ya say it when there’s more than one, like “cats” or “dogs.” Simple as that.

Now, these Rolexes, they ain’t cheap. They got this little crown on ’em, makes ’em look all important and stuff. Reminds me of the Queen, but smaller, ya know? They say it’s like a “crown for every big thing ya do,” or somethin’ like that. Sounds nice, but I reckon most folks just like how it looks shiny and all.

Can ya just walk in and buy one? Well, sort of. It ain’t like buyin’ eggs at the store, that’s for sure. Some of them fancy ones, ya gotta wait, and wait, and wait some more. Might even have to pick somethin’ else, if ya ain’t patient enough. They got all kinds, more than you can shake a stick at, I tell ya.

  • Some are big, some are small
  • Some are gold, some are silver
  • Some got diamonds, can you believe it?

I heard tell that some folks buy ’em and then sell ’em for more money later on. Crazy, right? But I guess that’s how it is with these fancy things. If you’re lookin’ to buy one, there’s places to go. There’s this “WatchGuys” place I heard about, they got old ones, like antiques and stuff. Seems like they know what they’re doin’.

If you’re thinkin’ about gettin’ a Rolex, ya gotta know what you’re doin’. It’s a lot of money, ya know? More than my old pickup truck cost, that’s for sure. Ya gotta make sure it’s the right one for ya. Not too big, not too small, gotta feel right on your wrist. And don’t let nobody fool ya, there’s a lot of fakes out there too.

Rolex, it’s a big name in watches. They say it’s the best, but what do I know? I just know they look pretty and cost a whole heap of money. For some folks, it’s like a treasure, something special to keep. I guess if you got the money, why not? But me? I’d rather spend it on a new roof for the barn, somethin’ useful.

But these watch collectors, they go crazy for these things. They talk about “vintage” and “rare” and all sorts of stuff I don’t understand. They like the old ones, the ones that been around for a while. Says something about history, I guess. To each their own, I say. If it makes ’em happy, that’s all that matters.

So, back to the “Rolexes” thing. It’s just a fancy way of sayin’ more than one. Don’t let it confuse ya. It’s like “potatoes” or “tomatoes,” just add an “es” and you’re good to go. And if you’re gonna spend that much money on a watch, make sure you like it, and make sure it’s real! That’s my advice, for what it’s worth. Now, where did I put my glasses…

And remember, just ’cause it’s shiny don’t mean it’s worth more than a good day’s work. But hey, if you got the money, go ahead and get yourself a Rolex, or a whole bunch of Rolexes, if that’s what makes ya happy. Just don’t come cryin’ to me if ya lose it down the well!
