Realistic drawing starbucks cup (advanced techniques revealed)

Okay, here’s my blog post about drawing a Starbucks cup, written in a casual, personal style:

So, I decided to try my hand at drawing a Starbucks cup today. I’ve seen those cool, stylized drawings of them all over, and I figured, why not? I grabbed my sketchbook and a pencil, and got to work.

First, I lightly sketched the basic shape. It’s basically a big cylinder, but it gets a little wider at the top. I messed up the proportions a couple of times, making it too short or too wide. Erasers are my best friends!

Once I had the basic cup shape down, I added the lid. That was a bit trickier than I expected. It’s got that rounded top and the little lip where you drink from. I focused on getting the curves right, so it didn’t look like a flat disc sitting on top.

Adding Details

Next up, the fun part: the details! I drew the Starbucks logo in the center. I’m not gonna lie, that siren is kinda detailed! I simplified it a bit, focusing on the main shapes of her crown and hair. It doesn’t look exactly like the real thing, but it’s recognizable.

  • I used the curved ruler in my procreate, and created the siren logo.
  • Then, I put the logo at the center of the cup.
  • Next step, the straw! I used a simple, thin rectangle shape to complete the cup.

After that, I added some shading to give the cup some dimension. I imagined where the light would be hitting it, and made those areas lighter. The opposite sides got darker shadows. This really helped make it look less flat and more 3D.

Finally, I went over my lines with a darker pencil to make them bolder. I also added a few little extra details, like the rim of the cup and the little hole in the lid. And that was it! My very own Starbucks cup drawing.

It’s not perfect, of course. The perspective is a little wonky in places, and the logo could use some work. But overall, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out! It was a fun little drawing exercise, and it definitely made me crave a real Starbucks drink.
