Well, let me tell ya, this movin’ thing, it ain’t no walk in the park. We finally got ourselves a new residence, and Lord have mercy, it’s been a whirlwind. I mean, from one place to another, gettin’ all our stuff together… it’s a lot.
This new residence, it’s somethin’ else. Bigger than our old place, that’s for sure. More rooms to clean, more space to fill up with junk, probably. But hey, at least we got room to breathe now. The old place was gettin’ a little cramped, you know? All of us piled on top of each other.
First thing we did, we had to pack. Oh, the packin’. Boxes everywhere, tape gettin’ stuck to everything, couldn’t find nothin’ for days. We had so much stuff, I swear. Stuff we ain’t even looked at in years, just sittin’ there collectin’ dust. You ever try moving across town? It is no picnic, let me tell ya, packin’ up all that stuff. And try to organize it when there’s just boxes everywhere.
We tried to get rid of some things, you know, have a little yard sale. Sold a few old chairs, some knick-knacks, an old lamp that never did work right. Made a little money, enough for a couple of pies, I reckon. But you can make a little money if you try and sell some of your old things.
- Find a new place
- Pack your stuff
- Move your stuff
- Unpack
Then came the movin’ day. Got ourselves a big ol’ truck. Neighbors came over to help, bless their hearts. We were liftin’ and toatin’ all day long. Back’s killin’ me now, just thinkin’ about it. This new residence better be worth it, I’ll tell ya that much. We were sweatin’ like pigs, tryin’ to get that sofa through the door. And wouldn’t you know it, it started to rain. Just our luck.
Once we got our new residence, we had to get the move started. It’s really somethin’ to move. You are gonna need to schedule when to move.
Movin’ ain’t easy, no sir. You gotta get boxes, and tape, and bubble wrap, and all that stuff. And you gotta label everything, or else you’ll never find nothin’ again. I wrote “kitchen” on about a hundred boxes, I swear. And don’t even get me started on the fragile stuff. Wrapped up my grandma’s old china like it was the crown jewels.
And then you gotta clean the old place. Scrubbin’ floors, washin’ windows, makin’ sure you get that deposit back. Landlord’s a stickler, you know. Always lookin’ for a reason to keep your money. We cleaned that place top to bottom, left it sparklin’. Hope he appreciates it. I mean, if you use a moving checklist, it ain’t gonna be that hard.
Now we’re in the new residence, and it’s just boxes everywhere. Can’t hardly move around. But slowly but surely, we’re gettin’ unpacked. Findin’ places for everything. It’s startin’ to feel like home, little by little. This is a lot of work, but maybe it is gonna feel like home soon.
We got a little garden in the back. Gonna try to grow some tomatoes, maybe some cucumbers. Always wanted a garden. And there’s a nice big tree out front, provides some shade. Good for sittin’ under on a hot day, sippin’ lemonade.
Kids are excited about their new rooms. They got more space now, they can spread out their toys and make a mess. As long as they clean it up, I guess. They’re already talkin’ about paintin’ the walls, puttin’ up posters. Makin’ it their own.
So, yeah, this new residence, it’s a big change. A lot of work, a lot of stress. But it’s a good change, I think. A fresh start. New beginnings. We’re gonna make some good memories here, I can feel it. Just gotta get through all these boxes first.
It’s a good thing to have a new residence, I reckon. A new place to call home. A place to hang your hat. A place to make new memories. And also, a place to just sit back and relax after all the move is completed. It’s important to be able to sit back and relax after a move.
So, if you’re thinkin’ about movin’, just be prepared. It ain’t easy, but it’s worth it in the end. Just remember to pack your patience, you’re gonna need it. And maybe get some help from your neighbors. And don’t forget to label them boxes! You’ll thank me later. It’s important to remember to have patience in a move.
I am not saying moving is difficult. But you do need a checklist to do it.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go unpack another box. This new residence ain’t gonna unpack itself, you know. Wish me luck!
