Okay, so, I’ve been thinking a lot about my wardrobe lately, especially with fall just around the corner. I feel like I always end up with a closet full of clothes but nothing to wear. Sound familiar? This year, I decided to do something different. I wanted to try out this whole “capsule wardrobe” thing I’ve been hearing so much about. It’s a great choice, right? Here is my fall capsule wardrobe checklist.

First things first, I took everything out of my closet. And I mean everything. It was kind of scary, to be honest. My bedroom looked like a clothing bomb went off! But it was also super freeing. I realized I had so much stuff I never even wore.
Then came the fun part – sorting! I made three piles: “Keep,” “Maybe,” and “Donate/Sell.” The “Keep” pile was for stuff I absolutely loved and wore all the time. The “Maybe” pile was for those items I wasn’t sure about, and the “Donate/Sell” pile was pretty self-explanatory.
I started with the basics. Like, every wardrobe needs some good basic tops, right? I have:
- Basic White Tee x 2: I chose two white tees because they are the best match for everything.
- Black Long-Sleeved Tee: Perfect for layering, that is how I feel.
- Striped Shirt: Just to add a little bit of pattern.
Next, I moved on to bottoms. I picked out:
- Jeans: A couple of pairs in different washes, of course.
- Black Trousers: For when I need to look a bit more dressed up.
- Corduroy Pants: Because it’s fall, and corduroy is cozy.
Then, I added some layering pieces:

- Cardigan: A chunky knit one, perfect for chilly days.
- Blazer: To instantly elevate any outfit.
- Denim Jacket: A classic for a reason.
For shoes, I kept it simple:
- Sneakers: My go-to for everyday wear.
- Ankle Boots: These go with everything!
- Loafers: For a more polished look.
And finally, I threw in a few accessories to complete the look:
- Scarf: A must-have for fall.
- Belt: To cinch in my waist and add some definition.
- Simple Jewelry: A few necklaces and earrings that I love.
Honestly, the whole process took longer than I expected. But it was so worth it. My closet is so much more organized now, and I feel like I have a bunch of new outfits, even though I got rid of a ton of stuff. The hardest part was definitely deciding what to get rid of, especially those pieces I was emotionally attached to, even though I never wore them. But I powered through!
It’s still a work in progress, but I’m really excited about my fall capsule wardrobe. Getting dressed in the morning is so much easier now, and I feel way more put-together. If you’re thinking about doing a capsule wardrobe, I say go for it! It’s a great feeling to know everything in your closet will work well for you. It’s not as scary as it seems, I promise. Just take it one step at a time, and have fun with it! It’s a nice choice to try.
