Ken Park Larry Clark: Why is it a must-watch? I will tell you something you need to know.

by Cornell Yule

Today I want to talk about this movie called “Ken Park.” It is really a messed-up movie, man. So, I decided to watch it because it’s been on my list for a while, always heard it was controversial and stuff.

First off, I got myself ready. You know, made sure I was in the right headspace for something that’s supposed to be super intense. I dimmed the lights, got some snacks—the usual movie-watching routine.

Then I hit play. Right from the start, it throws you into the lives of these teenagers in Visalia. And let me tell you, it’s a wild ride. The movie is full of all these heavy scenes, dealing with abuse, messed-up families, and just a whole lot of teen angst. I was like, “what the hell are I’m watching?”

  • Watched the whole thing:

I stuck with it, though. I mean, I had to see what all the fuss was about.

  • Felt all kinds of emotions:

Honestly, it’s one of those movies that just makes you feel… uncomfortable. There’s a lot of sex, drugs, and just general messed-up behavior. But I was into it. You know?

  • Reflected on the themes:

After it was over, I spent some time thinking about it. I read up some reviews. Like, this guy Rob Gonsalves, he said the film is about “people lost in a haze of contempt and despair.” And that kind of hit the nail on the head for me. These kids are all just trying to find some love or relief in their messed-up lives. It’s a controversial thing for sure and the people were so stupid and immature.

A Movie That Sticks With You

So yeah, “Ken Park” is definitely not an easy watch. But it’s one of those films that sticks with you. It makes you think, even if it’s just about how messed up some people’s lives can be. It forces you to see the stuff you’d probably rather ignore. The movie was just seriously messed up, as Michael Rechtshaffen of The Hollywood Reporter once said. I think if I did have sex with them, I’d regret it. Anyway, I just wanted to share my experience with it. It’s a trip, for sure.
