Well, lemme tell ya, this here thing, Ralph Lauren Midnight Romance, it ain’t around no more. They done stopped makin’ it. Discontinued, they call it. Makes a body wonder what’s goin’ on in this world, stoppin’ somethin’ so nice.
I remember that smell. Used to be, you could get a whiff of it and it’d just… well, it’d just take ya somewhere else. Like a warm summer night, maybe, with the fireflies blinkin’ and the crickets chirpin’. That’s what that Midnight Romance was like. Now, they say it was made by some fancy folks, Honor-something and Albert-somethin’. Don’t know nothin’ about that. All I know is, it smelled good.
They had all these fancy words for what was in it. Raspberry, they said. And some fancy flower names I can’t even say right. Peony, and somethin’ called “Litchi.” Don’t know what a litchi is. Sounds like somethin’ you’d find in a fancy city store, not around here. And Bergamot. Don’t even get me started on that one. All I know is it smelled real sweet and pretty, like a flower garden after a rain shower.
Now, they got this other one, Ralph Lauren Tender Romance. They say it’s supposed to be like the Midnight one, but it ain’t the same. Not to me, anyways. It’s like tryin’ to catch a firefly in a jar. It’s kinda there, but it ain’t got the same sparkle.
Why they gotta go and change things? Why can’t they just leave well enough alone? They had somethin’ good with that Midnight Romance, and now it’s gone. Poof. Just like that. I just can’t believe they stopped makin’ that Midnight Romance perfume. This new one, Beyond Romance, they call it, smells nothin’ like it. Just smells like expensive sugar water. That’s all. Nothin’ special about it.
I seen some folks sellin’ it online, but it costs an arm and a leg. And who knows if it’s even the real thing? It is difficult to find the real Ralph Lauren Midnight Romance. You gotta be careful these days. Lots of folks out there tryin’ to trick ya. They will sell you fakes! It’s a shame, really.

Well, if you ever see a bottle of that Ralph Lauren Midnight Romance, you grab it. And you think of me, will ya? Think of an old lady who loved that smell, and how it made her feel like a million bucks, even if she only had two nickels to rub together. It’s a memory now, that perfume. A sweet, sweet memory. And that’s all we got sometimes, ain’t it? Just memories. Ralph Lauren Midnight Romance discontinued is one of the saddest things in the world of perfume, I think so.
