So, today I want to talk about my experience with house hunting in Greenville, SC. Let me tell you, it was a ride. Started this whole thing because the wife and I decided it was time for a change, you know? Greenville seemed nice from what we saw online, decent schools for the kids, a bit of nature, seemed like a good place to settle down.

First, I hit up the usual websites, you know, the ones everybody uses. Was just browsing around, getting a feel for the market. Saw some pretty pictures, nice houses, the usual stuff. Found a place at 100 Potomac Ave, looked real nice in the photos. Three beds, three baths, seemed spacious enough. The price was 615,000 dollars. It sounded good at the time but, boy, was I in for a surprise later.
Then I found another listing, it was 349,900 dollars for a 3 beds, 3 baths too. It said it’s a single family house and was listed by someone named Julie Ellis from Coldwell Banker. Seemed like a better deal, right? But it got me thinking, what’s the catch? Why such a big difference in price for what seemed like similar houses?
So, I dug a little deeper. Started using those filter tools on the websites. You can filter by price, square footage, number of bedrooms, all that jazz. It was helpful, narrowed down the options a bit. But it also showed me how much variety there was in Greenville. You got your old houses, new houses, big lots, small lots, it was a lot to take in.
I talked to a few real estate agents. Got a lot of sales pitches, of course. But also got some useful info. They told me about the different neighborhoods, the market trends, the usual stuff agents tell you. One thing that stuck with me was this line from an agent’s website, “Search thousands of current listings directly from our local MLS. Our partners offer low rates, low fees, and local underwriting.” Sounded promising, but I was still skeptical. I’ve been burned before, you know?
We eventually took a trip down to Greenville to see some houses in person. Pictures are one thing, but you gotta see these places with your own eyes, right? Some places looked just like the photos, others, not so much. It’s funny how they can make a place look so good online, but then you get there, and it’s a different story.

Anyway, after a few trips, we started to get a better feel for the area. Talked to some locals, got their opinions. That was helpful, you learn a lot more from people who actually live there than from any website. They told us the real deal about the neighborhoods, the schools, the traffic, things you don’t really think about when you’re just looking at listings online.
- Started my search online.
- Found some interesting listings.
- Used filter tools to narrow down options.
- Contacted some real estate agents.
- Visited Greenville to see houses in person.
- Talked to locals for their opinions.
So, we are still looking, but now I feel way more informed. It’s a process, this whole house hunting thing. It’s not as easy as it looks online. But hey, I think it will be worth it in the end. We just gotta find that right place, you know? It’s out there somewhere, in Greenville, SC. I just know it.
