This watch, they call it GWG1000, it’s a big fella. You see them city folks wearin’ it, lookin’ all fancy. My grandson, he got one. Says it’s a “G-Shock”. Whatever that means. He’s always goin’ on about somethin’ or other.
He says it can tell you which way is North. Like I need a watch to tell me that! The sun comes up in the East, sets in the West. That’s all the North and South I need. But he likes it. Says it’s good for when he goes campin’. Campin’! We used to just sleep under the stars. No fancy watches needed.
This GWG1000, it’s tough, I’ll give it that. My grandson, he ain’t gentle with nothin’. Dropped it plenty of times. Still tickin’. He says it’s “shockproof”. Well, I reckon it better be for what he paid for it! I heard they use some steel on this watch. Don’t know how it works, but it’s expensive. Cost a whole lot of money I guess.
And waterproof! He wears it in the shower, in the rain, don’t matter. Says it can even go in the mud. “Mudproof,” he calls it. Now, I don’t see why you’d want to put your watch in the mud, but he’s young. They do all sorts of silly things. The boys on the farm, they love play with muds and sands. These watches are for them. You know, to make them look tough and man.
Here’s what my grandson told me, all the things this watch can do:
- Tell the time, of course. Even I know that much.
- Tell you which way is North. Like I said, the sun works just fine.
- Tell you how high up you are. Don’t need that ’round here, it’s all flat as a pancake.
- Tell you the weather. Just look at the sky, I say!
He says it’s good for folks who hunt and fish. We just use our wits for that. Don’t need no fancy watch to catch a fish. But I guess if you’re into that sort of thing, this GWG1000 might be for you. He also says some people wear it into the wild. They don’t even have anything but a knife. I don’t understand these young men. They are just too brave.
But this watch, it is expensive. They say it cost 500 dollars. 500 dollars! Could buy a lot of groceries with that. But, you know what they say, “people pay for it.” That’s why they make them. If you got the money, I guess you can spend it how you want. And this watch is made in Japan. So I guess it is expensive to make one. You know, the labor cost is high in Japan. That’s what I heard.
It’s a big watch, this GWG1000. Takes up a lot of space on your wrist. My grandson, he likes that. Makes him feel like a big shot, I suppose. He’s always showin’ it off to his friends. They all got them, these fancy watches. They are popular among young men. These watches make them feel like a grown man.
Me, I don’t need all that. I got my old watch, the one my husband gave me. It’s simple, it tells the time, and that’s all I need. But times are changing, I guess. I don’t understand why people need so many functions on a watch. I mean, they have a phone to do all these, right?
But if you’re lookin’ for a tough watch, one that can take a beatin’, this GWG1000 might be it. It is a good choice for someone who works outdoor. You know, the workers who need to work under tough weathers. This watch is for them I guess.
Just don’t expect me to understand why you need it to tell you which way is North. The sun’s been doin’ that for free for a long, long time. And this watch is not cheap! But young people just love them. They just love this brand, love this GWG1000. They say it is good. So maybe it is good.
I still don’t get it. But it’s their money. They can buy whatever they like. If they want to buy this GWG1000, then that is their choice. They say it is a good watch for hunters and fishers. Then let them buy it. This watch is not for me. I am just a normal person. I don’t need that many functions on my watch.
It’s a good watch for young people. If you are looking for a watch, and you like outdoor activities, then maybe you can buy this GWG1000. They are durable. They can work for a long time.
