Okay, so I’ve been wanting a purple purse for, like, ever. I finally decided to just go for it and make one myself! Here’s how it went down.

The Hunt for Supplies
First, I needed the perfect purple fabric. I went to, like, three different stores. The first one had some purples, but they were all, ugh, wrong. Too bright, too dull, too… I don’t know, just not it.
The second store was a total bust. Zero purple anything. Disappointing.
Finally, I hit the jackpot at the third store! They had this gorgeous, deep purple, velvety material. It was perfect! I also grabbed some lining fabric (just a simple black cotton), a zipper, and some thread that matched.
Getting Started
Back home, I spread everything out on my kitchen table. I didn’t really have a pattern, so I just kind of… winged it. I measured out a rectangle that seemed like a good size for a purse. I made two of these for the front and back.
- Cut the main purple fabric.
- Cut the lining fabric (same size).
Sewing It Up
Then came the scary part – the sewing machine! I’m not a pro or anything, but I can handle a straight line (most of the time). I pinned the purple pieces together, right sides facing each other, and sewed along the sides and bottom. Did the same thing with the lining.

Next, I put the lining inside the purple outer shell, wrong sides together. This part was a little tricky, getting everything to line up nicely. I pinned it all around the top edge.
Zipper Time!
The zipper was definitely the most intimidating part. I basted it in place first, just to make sure it was centered and straight. Then, I very carefully sewed it in with the machine, using the zipper foot. I messed up a couple of times and had to rip out some stitches, but eventually, I got it!
Finishing Touches
Almost done! I turned the whole thing right-side out through the zipper opening. It was starting to look like an actual purse!
I sewed a strap using some extra purple fabric. Just folded it over, sewed it up, and attached it to the sides of the purse.
And… ta-da! My very own, handmade, perfectly purple purse! It’s not perfect, there are a few wonky seams, but I love it! I made it, and it’s exactly the color I wanted. So, yeah, pretty happy with how it turned out.
