Okay, so, let me tell you about this whole “Flo-Jo fingernails” thing I got myself into.

It all started because I was super into nail art, you know? Browsing all those fancy designs online, and then I remembered Florence Griffith-Joyner, Flo-Jo. That woman was a legend, not just for her speed but for those nails! I mean, who runs the Olympics with 4-inch long, decorated nails? Only her!
So, I got this wild idea. I wanted to try them out, just to see what it was like. Not for running, of course! Just for, you know, everyday life. I found this local nail salon, a small one, and they’re usually up for anything. I showed them some pictures of Flo-Jo, explained what I wanted, and they were like, “Alright, let’s do it!”
The Process
- First, they had to prep my natural nails. Filed them down, cleaned them up, all that usual stuff.
- Then, came the extensions. Now, I didn’t go for the full 6-inch Flo-Jo style, because, let’s be real, I still needed to function. I opted for a more “modest” 2-inch length. They used acrylic, shaped them into these sharp, pointed claws, and cured them under the UV lamp.
- Next was the fun part – the design! I went full-on red, white, and blue, just like Flo-Jo’s iconic Olympic nails. They painted each nail with these vibrant colors, and added stars, stripes, glitter, the whole shebang. It was a real work of art, I tell you.
The whole process took a few hours. The nail tech was super careful and detailed, making sure everything was perfect. I was sitting there, watching my nails transform, feeling like an Olympic athlete getting ready for the big race, even though I was just planning to go grocery shopping later.
When it was all done, I looked at my hands, and wow! They were something else. Long, colorful, and definitely eye-catching. It was like having ten little masterpieces on my fingertips. I paid, thanked the nail tech, and walked out of that salon feeling like a new person, a more glamorous, maybe slightly impractical, version of myself. It was quite an experience, let me tell you! Using a keyboard is a nightmare, but hey, at least my nails look fabulous, and now I fully understand just how amazing of an athlete Flo-Jo truly was to set world records while sporting these claws!
