First Ladys Luncheon: Whos Who and What They Wore (A Look at the Guest List and Fashion)

Well, let me tell you, this here First Lady’s Luncheon, it’s a big to-do. Lots of fancy folks, all dressed up. It’s like one of them big parties you see on the picture box, you know? Ain’t nobody like me at that table, that’s for sure.

Now, these First Ladies, they’re the wives of them presidents. They gotta go to these things, smile, and be all nicey-nice. They always wearin’ them fancy dresses, all dolled up like they’re goin’ to a wedding or somethin’. I seen pictures of them, they always lookin’ perfect. My old dress from Sears wouldn’t cut it, I can tell you that much.

One of them, Jackie Kennedy, she was somethin’ else. Always looked like she stepped right outta one of them fashion books. Folks say she was real special. She was a looker, that one. My old man used to say she was a real “class act”, whatever that means. I remember seeing her on the black and white TV, and I thought that she was so beautiful. I wonder how much money she spent on her clothes.

  • These First Ladies, they gotta do more than just look pretty.
  • They gotta be hostesses, you know? Like at the White House.
  • That’s the big house where the president lives. Imagine that!
  • They gotta plan parties and shake hands and all that.

I heard they even got some old dresses from them past First Ladies, all saved up like they’re treasures. Twenty of ’em, I heard. Can you imagine? Probably worth a fortune, each one of ’em. I bet they have people that do all the cleaning and ironing and sewing. All these fancy dresses probably require a lot of care. I bet they don’t even know how to do laundry. I know how to do it. That’s my job in the house.

This one lady, Jill Biden, she’s the First Lady now. She’s a teacher, they say. And a grandma, too. She seems like a nice enough lady. She was the Second Lady before, that’s like the vice president’s wife. Seems like she’s been around that White House for a while now. I saw her on TV one time, she was reading a book to a bunch of kids. I thought that was real nice. She has to do a lot of things for her country. She is a very busy woman.

And get this, there was even a First Lady who wasn’t even married to the president! Harriet somethin’. Sounds like a made-up story to me, but that’s what they say. Seems like these First Ladies, they can be all sorts of things. Not just pretty faces, you know? They can be teachers, and helpers, and all that.

This First Lady’s Luncheon, it’s a big deal in Washington, I reckon. All them important people gettin’ together, eatin’ fancy food. Probably not the kinda food I’d cook, though. I bet they don’t have my famous corn bread. They probably have a lot of fancy meat and small desserts. I love small desserts, though I don’t know how to cook them. I only know how to cook for my family. And my family loves my cooking.

I guess being a First Lady is a tough job. You are always in the spotlight. Everyone is always looking at you, and taking pictures of you. Lots of responsibility, bein’ in the public eye all the time. Kinda like bein’ a movie star, but with more rules, I suppose. They have to be careful about what they say and how they act. Their every move is recorded by someone.

  • They’re like the queen bee of the White House, I reckon.
  • Gotta make sure everything’s just so.
  • Gotta be a good example for folks.
  • Gotta support the president, no matter what.

But, you know, it’s a big honor, too, I suppose. Representin’ the whole country like that. Standin’ by the president’s side. It’s somethin’ special, that’s for sure. Even if it ain’t the life for me. I’m happy with my small life. I don’t need fancy dresses or big parties. I am a simple person. I don’t need much in my life.

I’m more of a simple woman, myself. Happy with my garden and my chickens. Don’t need no fancy luncheon to make me happy. Just a good cup of coffee and some peace and quiet. That’s the life for me. But hey, these First Ladies, they do their thing, and they do it well. Gotta give ’em credit for that. They work very hard, and they are very dedicated to their husbands.

I reckon they got a lot of folks helpin’ ’em out, though. Can’t imagine doin’ all that on your own. Need a whole army of people to keep you lookin’ that good and doin’ all them things. It ain’t easy, that’s for sure. But I bet they don’t even know how to cook. If they could cook, they would not need a lot of people.

Anyways, this First Lady’s Luncheon, it’s just one of them things that happens in that fancy world of theirs. It is not related to me or to my life. A whole different world from mine, that’s for sure. But it’s interestin’ to think about, I suppose. All them fancy folks, eatin’ fancy food, wearin’ fancy clothes. It’s like a whole other planet, almost. These First Ladies must be very strong women. Their lives are very different from mine.

So, yeah, that’s what I think about this here First Lady’s Luncheon. A big old fancy party for a bunch of fancy folks. I hope they have a good time. And maybe one day, I’ll get to see one of them fancy dresses up close. Maybe they’ll put ’em in a museum or somethin’. That would be somethin’, wouldn’t it? But I probably won’t see them. I don’t like going to museums. They are so boring. I prefer staying at home and watching TV.
