This here Cuba Olympic uniform, it ain’t just clothes, you know? It’s a big deal. I seen them pictures of them athletes, all dressed up. Reminds me of when my boy went off to the city, all spiffed up in his Sunday best. This thing, though, it’s for the big games, the Olympics. Everybody’s watchin’, the whole world. Big, big deal.
They got, what’s that fella’s name? Christian somebody… makes them fancy shoes. He done made these clothes. And some other fella, Henri Tai. They worked together, like two hens peckin’ at the same seed. Must be important folks to be dressin’ up the whole team. Cuba, that’s where they’re from. Little island, way out in the water. Like that little island down by old man Johnson’s place, but bigger. Lots of people there. 120 athletes is a whole heap of people from Cuba. More folks than live in our whole county, I reckon!
These clothes, they ain’t flashy, not like some of them other countries. They’re, what do they call it? Classic. Like that old quilt my mama made, the one with the squares. Simple, but strong. That’s what they are. Them Cuba folks, they’re strong, like an ox pullin’ a plow. They gotta be, to go to them Olympics. You don’t just waltz in there, no sir. You gotta earn it.
They say Cuba, that little island, they done real good in them games before. They got medals and all. More medals than you can shake a stick at. And they ain’t never been to the winter games. Can you believe that? Like tryin’ to grow watermelons in the snow. Just don’t make sense. But they’re good at the summer ones, that’s for sure. These athletes, they are going to Paris in 2024. That’s what I heard.
- They say Cuba’s never been in the winter games.
- They’re good at the summer ones, though. Real good.
- 120 athletes going, that’s a lot of mouths to feed.
- They got some fancy shoe-maker makin’ their clothes.
- These clothes are “classic,” like an old quilt.
This year, 2024, it’s a big one for Cuba. Things are changin’ there, they say. Like when we got that new road through town, changed everything. Now everybody’s goin’ to the city more. This Cuba, it’s changin’ too. And these games, these Olympics, it’s part of it. They’re showin’ the world what they’re made of, these Cuba folks. These Olympic athletes are strong.
Saturday, that’s when the big cheese, the Vice President, he said goodbye to all them athletes. Diaz-Canel, that’s his name. Like our mayor, but more important. He sent them off to Rio, first. That’s another place, far away. They’ll go to Paris from there, I reckon. That’s where the games are, this time. Paris 2024. Sounds important, don’t it?
They got all kinds of sports, you know. Runnin’, jumpin’, swimmin’, throwin’ things. More sports than you can count on your fingers and toes. They will compete between Jul 26-Aug 11. And these Cuba folks, they’re good at a bunch of ’em. They got 62 of them qualified already for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. That’s a lot, let me tell you. More folks than live on my whole road. All goin’ to the Olympics. Just imagine that. And 19 of ’em, they’re doin’ that runnin’ and jumpin’ thing. Athletics, they call it. Sounds fancy, don’t it?
I seen them pictures of them athletes, all lined up. Smilin’, proud. Wearin’ them Cuba Olympic uniform. Makes you feel good, just lookin’ at ’em. Like watchin’ the sun come up over the cornfield. A new day, a new chance. That’s what it is. The Cuba team is going to Paris to win medals. A chance to show the world what they can do.
So, this uniform, it ain’t just clothes. It’s a symbol, like that flag we fly out front. It means somethin’. It means these folks, these athletes from Cuba, they’re ready. They’re ready to run, to jump, to swim, to do whatever it takes. They’re ready to make their little island proud. And that, let me tell you, that’s a big deal. A real big deal. It is an honor to wear the Cuba Olympic uniform.
