The Great Hair Washing Experiment

My hair was, I don’t know, maybe two days dirty? Not super greasy, but definitely not squeaky clean. I’d heard mixed things – some people swear by washing it right before, others say the natural oils help protect your scalp. I was leaning towards the “dirty hair” camp, but wanted to be sure.

First, I gathered my stuff. I’m a box-dye kinda gal, nothing fancy. Got my gloves, the dye, the developer, the little conditioner packet, and an old towel I didn’t care about staining. Oh, and a timer – crucial!

Then, I did what l always done, Skip Washing My Hair! I had my hair nature oils, So I start!

I brushed my hair out really well to get rid of any tangles. That’s important, because you don’t want the dye to get caught on knots and end up patchy.

Then, I mix my dye! and start apply the dye, starting at my roots, my hair color is light, so I focus my roots,

Because I always keep my nature color as possible, That is easy for me to keep my hair in a heathy way.

Waiting, Waiting… This is the boring part. I usually set a timer for, 30 minutes, and just scroll through my phone or watch some TV. This time, though, I was paying extra attention to see if my scalp felt itchy or irritated. Normally, it doesn’t, but I wanted to see if having slightly dirty hair made a difference.

Time’s Up! Ding ding ding! Time to rinse. I hopped in the shower and rinsed, rinsed, rinsed until the water ran clear. This took a while, and it’s super important to get all the dye out. Then, I used the little conditioner packet that came with the dye. Those things are magic, seriously.

The Results?

Honestly, My hair turned out great! The color was even, and my scalp felt totally fine – no irritation at all. My hair felt soft and looked shiny after it dried. I think not washing my hair before was the way to go.

  • Even Color: My hair is light color, so I just focus my roots and keep a nature color as much as I can.
  • Happy Scalp: No itching, no burning, nothing.
  • Soft and Shiny: That conditioner packet is a lifesaver.

So, my personal verdict? Skip the pre-dye wash! At least, that’s what worked for me and my kinda-sorta-dirty hair. Of course, everyone’s hair is different, but this is officially my new routine.
