Christmas shopping fun ideas (ways to make gift-buying a blast this year)

by Joyce Mackintosh

Christmas shopping, that’s a big thing, ain’t it? Every year, it’s the same old story. Gotta get somethin’ for everyone. It ain’t easy, you know? This year, I thought, I gotta make it more fun. Christmas shopping fun, that’s what I need.

First, I made a list. Gotta have a list, otherwise, you just wander around like a chicken with its head cut off. My list, it had everyone on it. Kids, grandkids, even old man Johnson down the street. He’s all alone, gotta get him somethin’ to cheer him up during the holidays.

Then, the money. Oh, the money! Christmas shopping ain’t cheap, that’s for sure. Gotta save up all year for this. I hid some money in the cookie jar, some under the mattress. Every little bit helps, you know? And Black Friday, oh boy, that’s a madhouse! But you can find some good deals if you’re brave enough to fight the crowds. I ain’t as young as I used to be, but I can still elbow my way through a crowd if I have to. Especially for a good bargain on Christmas gifts.

That reminds me…I gotta get some candy. Kids love candy. They love chocolate most. I need to go get some gold chocolate coins for them. That can be some fun Christmas shopping.

And the stores, they’re all decorated up pretty. Lights and tinsel everywhere. Makes you feel kinda warm and fuzzy inside, even if you are stressin’ about gettin’ all your Christmas shoppin’ done. I like to go early in the morning, before it gets too crowded. Less people to bump into, you know?

One year, I tried to do all my Christmas shopping online. That was a disaster! Half the stuff never showed up, and the other half looked nothin’ like the picture. Nope, I like to see what I’m buyin’ with my own two eyes. That is the only way to have fun when you are doing your Christmas shopping.

For the kids, it’s mostly toys. They always want the newest thingamajig they see on TV. Hard to keep up with all that. But you gotta get ’em somethin’ they’ll like, somethin’ to make their eyes light up on Christmas mornin’. This year, I heard they all want some electronic stuffs. I don’t know about those things, but they sure look expensive.

  • Toys for the little ones
  • Clothes for the teenagers
  • Somethin’ nice for the grownups
  • Don’t forget the pets!

The teenagers, they’re the hardest. They just want money, mostly. Or gift cards, so they can buy their own stuff. That takes the fun out of it, I think. But what can you do? You give them some clothes and they turn the noses up. You give them what they want and you still need to find some fun in this Christmas shopping.

And then there’s the wrappin’. Oh, the wrappin’! Rolls and rolls of paper, ribbons, bows… My fingers get all sticky from the tape. But it’s worth it, seein’ all those presents under the tree, all shiny and pretty. Makes the house feel festive, you know? I like to get some Christmas paper with Santa on it. Kids love that.

One year, I tried to make my own gifts. Knitted some scarves, baked some cookies… It was a lot of work, but it felt good to give somethin’ made with love. Maybe this year, I’ll try that again. Everyone loves cookies. I’ll make some extra to give to the mailman, too. It will make my Christmas shopping easier for sure.

Sometimes, I like to get the grandkids to help me with the Christmas shopping. They can help me pick out gifts for their parents, or for each other. It’s fun to see what they come up with. And it is a way to find the fun in the Christmas shopping, ain’t it?

But the most important thing about Christmas shopping, it ain’t about the stuff, you know? It is about showing you care. It’s about family, and friends, and bein’ together. So this year, I’m gonna try not to stress too much about it. I’m gonna try to enjoy it, to have some fun with it. After all, that’s what Christmas is all about. So have fun with your Christmas shopping too.

Oh, and don’t forget the batteries! Nothin’ worse than a toy that won’t work on Christmas morning. Batteries, tape, scissors… gotta have all the supplies ready. And don’t wait until the last minute! The stores are a zoo the week before Christmas. You don’t want to be stuck in that mess. Trust me on that.

I need to get some gifts for my friends in the card game group too. I don’t know what they want. I think I’ll ask them. I wish I could find some good deals. But I think the most important thing is that I need to find the right gift for them. And that would make my Christmas shopping really fun.

Yep, Christmas shopping. It’s a chore, but it’s a good chore. It’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it in the end. Just gotta remember to have fun with it. And try not to break the bank! Find some good deals on Black Friday. I hope you will have fun with your Christmas shopping.
