Channel Lip Gloss: Get That Iconic Shine (Easy Tips!)

by Afra Jennings

Okay, so I’ve been obsessed with getting that super glossy, almost wet-look lip lately. You know, the kind that looks like you just licked your lips, but in a chic, intentional way? I decided to try and DIY my own “channel” lip gloss, aiming for that high-end, luxurious shine.

Channel Lip Gloss: Get That Iconic Shine (Easy Tips!)

First, I gathered my supplies. I didn’t want to buy anything fancy, so I just used stuff I already had around the house. This is what I grabbed:

  • A clear lip gloss. Mine was some cheap-o one I got in a gift set ages ago. It was almost empty, perfect!
  • Vaseline. Everybody’s got some Vaseline, right?
  • A little bit of loose shimmer eyeshadow. I picked a champagne-gold color, because I thought it would look universally flattering.
  • A small, empty container. I reused an old sample-sized moisturizer jar.
  • A toothpick (for mixing). A popsicle stick would be nice.

Mixing It Up

I started by squeezing the last bit of the clear gloss into my empty container. Then, I scooped a tiny bit of Vaseline – like, a pea-sized amount – and added it to the mix. Vaseline is the key, I think, to getting that thick, almost “channel” look. It adds that extra oomph of glossiness.

Next, I took my toothpick and carefully scraped a little bit of the shimmer eyeshadow into the container. I didn’t want it to be glittery, just shimmery, so I went really easy on it. You can always add more, but you can’t take it away!

Then came the messy part: mixing! I used my toothpick to stir everything together. It took a while to get it all evenly combined, and honestly, it looked kind of gross at first. Like, a weird, gloopy mess. But I kept stirring, and eventually, it started to look more like a lip gloss.

The Result

I tried it on, and… I was actually pretty impressed! It wasn’t exactly like a super expensive gloss, but it was definitely glossier and more “plumped” looking than my usual lip balm. The shimmer was subtle, just enough to catch the light. It felt really moisturizing, too, thanks to the Vaseline.

It definitely gave that “my lips but better” vibe. It wasn’t sticky, which was a major win. And, best of all, it cost me basically nothing, since I used stuff I already had. I felt like I unlocked some secret beauty hack. This is something I will probably do again, and continue my attempt to make the perfect DIY channel lip gloss.
