Champion x Rick Owens: Where Streetwear Meets High Fashion

by Joyce Mackintosh

Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this… uh… Champion and… Rick… uh… Owens thing. It’s like this, ya see. These fancy folks, they make clothes. Clothes for the young’uns, I reckon. And they got together, like a hen and a rooster, to make somethin’ new.

Now, I ain’t no fashion expert, mind you. I wear what’s comfortable, what keeps me warm in the winter and cool in the summer. But from what I gather, Champion, they make them sporty clothes. You know, the kind them kids wear when they’re runnin’ around and playin’ ball. And this Rick Owens fella, he’s… well, he’s different. He makes clothes that are… dark. Black, mostly. And kinda… strange lookin’ sometimes.

So, you put ’em together, and what do ya get? Sporty clothes that are dark and strange!

They call it a “collaboration”, like it’s some big important thing. But to me, it’s just clothes. Though, I hear tell these clothes ain’t cheap. You gotta shell out a pretty penny to get yourself one of these Champion by Rick… whatever-his-name-is outfits.

I saw some pictures online, you know, on that internet thing my grandson showed me. They got these jackets, black leather jackets mostly, and these… sweatpants, I guess you call ’em. But they’re not like the sweatpants I wear to the store. These are… fancy sweatpants. With extra zippers and straps and whatnot. And they got these shoes, too. Big, clunky boots, mostly. Look like somethin’ you’d wear to stomp around in a muddy field, but I bet they cost more than my whole wardrobe.

  • Jackets: Mostly black leather
  • Pants: Fancy sweatpants with zippers and straps
  • Shoes: Big, clunky boots, like stompin’ boots

Now, I don’t understand why anyone would pay so much money for clothes, especially clothes that look like they been dragged through a ditch. But hey, to each their own, I always say. If them city folks wanna spend their money on this Rick Owens Champion stuff, that’s their business. Me, I’ll stick to my overalls and my comfy shoes. They may not be fancy, but they get the job done, and they don’t cost an arm and a leg.

I hear this Rick Owens guy, he started makin’ clothes a long time ago. Back in the 90s, they say. Started in some place called Hollywood. Can you believe it? Hollywood! That’s where all them movie stars hang out. And he started makin’ shoes, too. Big, clunky shoes, just like the ones he’s makin’ with Champion now. And seems like people really like his shoes. They say they’re comfy, even if they look a bit… odd.

So, Champion and Rick Owens. It’s a strange mix, if you ask me. Like mixin’ oil and water. But somehow, it seems to work. People are buyin’ this stuff, wearin’ it around town. Maybe there’s somethin’ to it, after all. Maybe I’m just an old lady who don’t understand these newfangled fashions. But I still think my overalls are just fine.

And another thing, this stuff ain’t always easy to get your hands on. You gotta go to special stores, or order it online. And sometimes, you gotta wait a while to get it, especially if they’re havin’ a sale. Seems like everyone wants a piece of this Rick Owens by Champion pie, even if it costs a fortune. It’s all a bit much for me, I tell ya. Too much fuss, too much money, for just a bunch of clothes.

But like I said, that’s just my opinion. If you like this Champion x Rick Owens stuff, go ahead and buy it. Wear it with pride. Just don’t expect me to understand it. I’ll stick to my old clothes, and you stick to your fancy ones. We’ll both be happy that way, I reckon.

And that’s all I gotta say about this Rick Owens Champion, or whatever they call it. It’s clothes. Fancy clothes, expensive clothes, but still just clothes. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed my chickens.
