Okay, so I’ve been messing around with watches for a while now, and let me tell you, the whole Audemars Piguet (AP) thing is a wild ride. I got it into my head that I needed to figure out if these fancy watches I was seeing were real or just really good fakes. You know, you see those shiny Royal Oaks and you start wondering…

First off, I dove deep into the internet. For days, man, I was just reading everything I could find about AP. Turns out, every single one of these bad boys has had a serial number since way back in the 1800s. That was my first clue.
Then I started looking at the watches themselves. I got my hands on a few, some I knew were legit, others…not so much. The real ones? Man, the way they do those little squares on the dial, it’s like butter. Smooth, even, just perfect. The fakes? They just looked off, chunky, and the squares were not the same all over. I spent hours just staring at those squares, I swear.
- Examining the Logo: Next up was the logo. On a real AP, it is all raised gold, super polished, you can really see the details. The fakes I saw? Sometimes the logo was just printed on, or it looked blurry, or faded. Not good. It took me a bit to really see the difference, but once you know, you know.
- Finding the Serial Number: Now, the serial number, that’s the real key. I found out that on newer AP watches, it’s usually on the back. I looked at a bunch of them, and sure enough, there it was, all nicely engraved. The fake ones, either they didn’t have one, or it looked like it was scratched on by a toddler. I spent a whole afternoon with a magnifying glass just checking out those numbers.
- Weighing the watch: Also a real one has to be heavy, very heavy. I lifted some, and some are light as a feather, while the real ones are much heavier. I guess it is gold, so it can’t be light, right?
After all this, I felt like a real detective. I went to a few watch meetups, armed with my newfound knowledge. I even called out a couple of fakes! It was a rush, let me tell you. Some people didn’t like it, but hey, I was just trying to help.
So yeah, that’s my AP adventure. It was a lot of work, a lot of squinting, and a lot of learning. But now, I can spot a fake AP from a mile away. It’s a pretty cool skill to have, especially if you’re into watches. And those real APs? They’re something special, that’s for sure. I think I bought a real one, it is very expensive! I have worked for it for a whole year.
It is so amazing to have a real Audemars Piguet watch in my hand! The most exciting thing is to find a real one among a bunch of fake ones. Anyway, I will keep studying to be a better watch lover.
