Okay, so, I’ve got these Dior heels, right? Super stylish, but I wanted to make sure they last. So I started like I always do with my shoes, especially before the fall season really kicks in. I sat down and made a whole afternoon of it, dedicated to cleaning and taking care of my shoes. I figured, better do it now than regret it later, you know?
First, I gathered all my shoe care stuff. I’m talking about cleaners, conditioners, a waterproofing spray, brushes, and some soft cloths. I mean the whole nine yards! I laid everything out on a big old towel to keep my workspace clean – gotta protect that floor, am I right?
I started with the cleaning part. I took a soft brush and brushed off any loose dirt from the heels. I paid special attention to the soles and the seams, because that’s where dirt likes to hang out. After that, I used a leather cleaner, following the instructions on the bottle of course. This part is important, gotta treat that leather right. I used a damp cloth, applied a bit of the cleaner, and rubbed it gently in circles. Teamwork makes the dream work.
- Wipe down: After cleaning, I wiped them down with a clean, damp cloth to remove any cleaner residue. Can’t have that stuff sticking around.
- Dry time: Then, I let them air dry. I stuffed some newspaper inside to help them keep their shape. Patience is key here. I made sure not to put them near any direct heat or sunlight. That can be a disaster for leather.
Once they were dry, it was time for conditioning. This is like giving your shoes a nice spa treatment. I applied a leather conditioner with a soft cloth, rubbing it in gently. It’s kinda therapeutic, honestly. This helps keep the leather soft and prevents it from cracking, that is to say the leather’s gonna crack if you are careless about it.
Waterproofing
Next up, waterproofing. This is super important, especially with fall and winter weather coming up. I used a waterproofing spray that’s made for leather. I sprayed it evenly, holding the can about six inches away and made sure to get every part of the shoe. I did this in a well-ventilated area because, you know, fumes and stuff.
After spraying, I let them dry again. Another waiting game, but totally worth it. Once they were completely dry, I gave them a final once-over. They looked amazing, if I do say so myself. Shiny, clean, and ready to face whatever weather comes their way.

I make it a point to take really good care of all my shoes. Every night, I put cedar shoe trees in them. It helps absorb moisture and keeps them smelling fresh, not to mention maintaining their shape. Plus, I try not to wear the same pair two days in a row. They need time to breathe, just like us! And regular polishing? Absolutely. It’s not just about looks, it’s about protecting the leather. All of these can keep them looking great for years. So there you have it, my little shoe care routine. It’s a bit of work, but totally worth it to keep my Dior heels looking fabulous!
