Okay, here’s my take on sharing my “women’s fall capsule wardrobe” experience, just like a regular blogger would.

Alright everyone, so I finally tackled something I’ve been meaning to do forever: a fall capsule wardrobe! I was totally overwhelmed at first, but now that I’m (mostly) done, I wanted to share how I went about it.
Step 1: The Closet Purge – Brutal Honesty Time!
First things first, I literally dumped EVERYTHING out of my closet onto my bed. It was a mountain of clothes! Then came the hard part. I went through each item and asked myself some tough questions:
- Have I worn this in the past year? (Be honest!)
- Does it fit well RIGHT NOW?
- Do I love it? Like, really love it?
- Is it in good condition? (No holes, stains, etc.)
- Does it go with at least three other things in my closet?
If the answer to any of those questions was a big “no,” it went into the “donate/sell” pile. And believe me, there was a LOT in that pile. It was painful, but so freeing!
Step 2: Identify Your Color Palette & Style
Okay, with the closet cleared out, I started thinking about colors. I knew I wanted something that would work for me, so I went for neutrals. Think black, gray, navy, cream, and then added some pops of color with burgundy and olive green. Colors that I already love wearing, and that look good on me!
As for style, I’m going for that casual-but-put-together vibe. You know, jeans, sweaters, boots…but still looks good enough for a coffee date or a casual office day.

Step 3: The Core Pieces – The Building Blocks
This is where the real planning came in. I made a list of the essential items for my fall capsule. Here’s what I ended up with:
- Jeans: Dark wash, straight leg – my go-to.
- Sweaters: A few different styles: a chunky knit, a classic crewneck, and a cardigan.
- Long-Sleeve Tees: Neutral colors (black, white, gray) for layering.
- Button-Down Shirt: A classic white one. So versatile!
- Blazer: A black one that fits perfectly. Instantly elevates any outfit.
- Boots: Ankle boots in black and brown.
- Sneakers: White sneakers for casual days.
- Coat: A wool coat in a neutral color (navy or gray).
- Scarf: A cozy scarf in a color that complements my palette.
The key here was to focus on quality over quantity. I tried to invest in pieces that would last and that I could wear for years to come.
Step 4: Filling in the Gaps – Accessories & a Few Fun Pieces
Once I had the core pieces sorted, I added a few accessories and fun pieces to round things out. I’m talking a few statement necklaces, some simple earrings, a nice belt, and maybe a patterned scarf or two.
I also allowed myself one or two “fun” items that weren’t strictly essential, like a cool hat or a slightly more trendy top. Just to keep things interesting!
Step 5: Outfit Planning – The Real Test
Okay, now the fun part! I started trying on different combinations of clothes to see what worked. I took pictures of my favorite outfits so I could remember them later.

This is where you really see if your capsule wardrobe is working. Can you mix and match everything easily? Do you have enough variety to keep things interesting? If not, it’s time to tweak things.
The Result?
Honestly, having a capsule wardrobe has been a game-changer. Getting dressed is so much easier, and I feel like I actually have more to wear, even though I own fewer clothes. Plus, I’m saving money because I’m not constantly buying new things I don’t need!
It’s definitely a process, and it takes some trial and error, but I highly recommend giving it a try. Let me know if you have any questions!
