Well, let me tell you somethin’ about this fella, Hedi somethin’-or-other, leavin’ that See-leen brand. I heard it on the TV while I was washin’ dishes. They talk so fancy on them shows, but I think I got the gist of it.
This Hedi guy, he’s been makin’ clothes for See-leen for seven years. Seven years! That’s a long time to be doin’ anythin’, let me tell ya. I been married to my old man for nigh on fifty, and that feels like forever and a day.
Anyways, this See-leen, it’s a big deal, I guess. They sell fancy clothes and purses and stuff. Stuff I wouldn’t be caught dead wearin’, mind you, but folks with more money than sense seem to like it. Apparently, Hedi made ’em a whole lot of money, too. The TV said somethin’ about billions, with a “B.” Can you imagine? Billions of dollars! What do you even do with that much money? I’d probably just buy a bigger TV and a new set of dentures, and maybe a lifetime supply of them fancy cookies they sell at the store.
But here’s the thing. Even though Hedi was makin’ ’em all this money, he’s up and leavin’. Just like that. Reminds me of my nephew, Billy. Got a good job at the factory, makin’ decent money, then he decided he wanted to “find himself” and went off to California to “be an artist.” Last I heard, he was livin’ in his car and sellin’ painted rocks. Kids these days!
- So why’s Hedi leavin’? Well, that’s where it gets confusing.
- The TV folks said somethin’ about a “boardroom failure,” whatever that means.
- Sounds like a bunch of suits squabblin’ over money to me. Always about the money, ain’t it?
And then there’s this other thing. Hedi just put out a new collection, all tweed and stuff. Makes me think of my old grandma’s itchy couch. But these fashion folks, they go crazy for it. And now, they’re sayin’ he might be goin’ to work for that Chanel place. You know, the one with the fancy perfume and the two “C”s all tangled up together. My neighbor’s daughter saved up for a whole year to buy one of them purses. Said it cost more than my old car. Can you believe that?
It’s all a bit much, ain’t it? All this fancy talk and big money and clothes that cost more than a tractor. But I guess that’s how the world works these days. Rich folks get richer, and the rest of us just keep on washin’ dishes and watchin’ the news, tryin’ to make sense of it all.
This Hedi fella, he’ll probably land on his feet. Guys like that always do. And See-leen, well, they’ll find somebody else to make ’em money. It’s just the way things go. Like the seasons, you know? Summer, fall, winter, spring. And then back to summer again. Always changin’.
And what about me? Well, I’ll just keep on doin’ what I do. Washin’ dishes, watchin’ the news, and tryin’ to figure out why folks pay so much money for itchy clothes. And maybe, just maybe, I’ll finally buy myself a new set of teeth. After all, you only live once, right?
So that’s the story, as best as I can tell it. Hedi’s leavin’ See-leen, maybe goin’ to Chanel, and I’m still here, doin’ the same old thing. Some things change, some things stay the same. That’s life, I guess.
