Okay, so I’ve always been kinda obsessed with Shania Twain’s style, especially from back in the day. You know, the “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” era. That mix of glam and country, with a touch of rock ‘n’ roll, is just chef’s kiss. So, I decided to try and recreate some of her iconic looks for a week, just for fun.

Day 1: The Leopard Print Obsession

I started with what’s probably her most recognizable signature: leopard print. Seriously, the woman loves leopard print. I found this old leopard print hooded jacket in the back of my closet – I think I bought it like ten years ago and totally forgot about it. It wasn’t exactly like Shania’s famous full-length coat, but hey, it’s a start.

I paired it with a simple black top and some black jeans. To be sure I looked good, I put on some hoop earrings. The look wasn’t quite as extra as Shania’s, but I felt pretty good. I even tried to do the whole wind-blown hair thing, but I mostly just ended up looking like I’d stuck my head out of a car window.

Day 2: Denim on Denim (on Denim)

Shania rocks the Canadian tuxedo like nobody’s business. I dug out my favorite denim jacket and my most comfortable pair of jeans. I used the best iron and ironing board to smooth them. It’s a bold move, wearing that much denim, but I figured, if Shania can do it, so can I (maybe?).

I added a plain white t-shirt underneath and some cowboy boots that I borrowed from my friend. She actually does line dancing, so they were the real deal. I felt surprisingly cool, like I could two-step my way through anything. I walked around the house with extra swagger that day. Honestly, it felt pretty liberating.

Day 3: Trying for Top Hat Glamour

Remember that iconic top hat and long coat look from the “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” video? Yeah, that’s a whole other level of confidence. I didn’t have a top hat just lying around (who does?), but I did find a wide-brimmed black hat that kinda sorta gave off the same vibe. I paired the wide-brimmed black hat with the black fitted blazer and black pants. I even found some sparkly earrings to try and amp up the glam factor. It was very hard, but after looking at some pictures, I managed to make it.

  • Find a wide-brimmed black hat. I searched my own closet first (no luck) and then checked out a few local thrift stores.
  • Get a black fitted blazer. Again, thrift stores are your friend! I found one that fit pretty well after a bit of searching.
  • Some black pants.
  • Sparkly earrings.

I tried to channel my inner Shania and strut around my living room. My cat was unimpressed. The result? Let’s just say I probably won’t be quitting my day job to become a Shania Twain impersonator anytime soon. But hey, it was fun to try!

Day 4,5,6 and 7. Practice, Practice, Practice

I spent the rest of the week mixing and matching these elements. I played around some more with makeup, trying for that 90s smoky eye (which is harder than it looks!). I even tried to learn some of the dance moves from her videos. I learned them with a friend, and it took me a few times, but it was so exciting when I finally did it. I felt great.

The whole experience was way more fun than I expected. It’s not about looking exactly like Shania (because, let’s be real, who can?). It’s more about capturing that feeling of confidence and fun that she always seems to exude. And you know what? I think I nailed a little bit of that. Would I wear leopard print head-to-toe every day? Probably not. But will I be adding a little more Shania-inspired flair to my wardrobe? Absolutely. I recommend everyone to try it!
