Where to Buy Luxury Candles: Find Your New Favorite Scents!

by Rod Nichol

Today, I decided to make some luxury candles. I’ve always been a fan of nice-smelling things, and those fancy candles in stores are just so darn expensive. So, I figured, why not try making them myself? It’ll be fun, right? And cheaper, hopefully.

First, I had to get some supplies. I grabbed some wax from a local craft store – just some plain soy wax, nothing fancy. Then, I snagged some wicks and those little metal things that hold the wicks in place. I also picked up some glass jars from a thrift store. They’re not exactly what you’d see in a high-end shop, but they’ll do for now. For the scent, I wanted to keep it simple for my first try. I got some essential oils – Lime Zest and Matcha – because I saw these on some popular blog, maybe Vogue or something, saying they were good. They smelled pretty good, so I went with them.

The process was a bit messy. I melted the wax in a makeshift double boiler – basically a pot of boiling water with a smaller pot inside. It took a while, and I was a bit worried I might burn myself, but I managed to melt it without any accidents. While the wax was melting, I stuck the wicks to the bottom of the jars with a bit of hot glue. Seemed to work well enough.

Mixing Time

Once the wax was all liquid, I poured in the essential oils. I didn’t really measure, just dumped in a bunch until it smelled strong enough. Then, I carefully poured the wax into the jars. This was the tricky part. I spilled a bit on the counter, but luckily, it was easy to clean up. I made sure the wicks were standing up straight, and then I just had to wait for the wax to cool down and harden.

The Waiting Game

It took a few hours for the candles to fully set. I kept checking on them every now and then, super excited to see how they turned out. While I waited, I thought about how I could make them look nicer next time. Maybe some colored wax? Or some dried flowers pressed into the sides? The possibilities seemed endless.

The Final Result

Finally, they were ready! I trimmed the wicks and lit one of the candles. It actually worked! The flame was steady, and the scent filled the room. It wasn’t as strong as those store-bought ones, but it was definitely there. I was pretty proud of myself, to be honest. I made a candle! A luxury-ish candle, at least.

  • Things I learned:
  • 1. Melting wax takes longer than you think.
  • 2. Essential oils can be quite potent.
  • 3. Making candles is fun but a bit messy.

Overall, it was a fun experiment. I’ll definitely try it again, maybe with some different scents and fancier jars. Who knows, maybe I’ll even start selling them someday. But for now, I’m just happy to have some homemade candles to enjoy.
