Okay, so, I’ve been seeing this name, “Vittoria di Savoia,” pop up everywhere lately. It was really getting on my nerves, so I figured I’d finally figure out what the hype is all about. Turns out, she’s some kind of princess, the daughter of Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy. Apparently, he’s the head of the House of Savoy. It’s all a bit confusing, but I guess they were important people in Italy, or something.
So, first thing I did was check out her Instagram, naturally. Found her at “*”. She’s got a bunch of pictures, nothing too out of the ordinary for someone her age. There was this one post, a birthday shoutout to someone named Luisa, seemed like her sister. “Happy birthday to my fav human,” she wrote. “Life’s way more fun w you by my side.” Sounds like they’re close, which is nice.
Then I dug a bit deeper into this whole House of Savoy business. Seems like they used to be a big deal, but haven’t been in charge since 1946. Apparently, there’s some drama because Vittoria is the first woman to be in line for their “throne” in, like, a thousand years. Old rules only let guys inherit, so this is a change-up. Her dad, Emanuele Filiberto, he’s 50, and he recently said he’s going to step down, which means Vittoria would take over. That’s probably why everyone’s talking about her.
Now, here’s where it gets a little sad. I found out that Princess Maria Vittoria, who I guess is related, passed away in Naples back in 1874. She’s buried with her family in a place called Santa Chiara in Naples. Then, just this year, a Vittorio Emanuele died in Switzerland. I guess that’s her grandfather.
I also stumbled upon this article that said Vittoria, after her father Filiberto’s resignation, was at Paris Fashion Week with her mom. She is the new holder of the dynastic rights, so that’s pretty cool, I guess.
So, basically, Vittoria di Savoia is this young woman, about 19 or 20, who’s set to be the head of a formerly royal family. It’s a bit of a shake-up because of the whole gender thing. She seems like a regular person, though, from her Instagram. I’m still not 100% clear on all the details, but at least I understand the basics now. Maybe I’ll keep an eye on what she does next. It’s kind of interesting, even if it is all a bit over my head.
