Two Fingers Behind Shoes Is It Too Big? Simple Fit Guide!

by Rod Nichol

So, I saw this thing online about checking if your shoes are too big by sticking two fingers behind your heel. I figured, why not give it a shot? My favorite sneakers have been feeling a bit loose lately, and I was curious if they were actually too big or if it was just my imagination.

First, I grabbed my sneakers and slipped them on. I made sure my heel was all the way back in the shoe, just like I normally wear them. Then, I tried to squeeze two fingers into that space between my heel and the back of the shoe. It was a bit of a tight fit, I mean it’s not easy.

I managed to get them in there. It felt pretty snug, but not uncomfortable. According to what I read, this means the shoes are a good fit. If I could have easily slipped more than two fingers in, then they’d be too big. Guess my sneakers are not too big. I was actually a little surprised, I really thought they might be too big.

I decided to try it out with a few other pairs of shoes. I pulled on my old running shoes, the ones I know are too big. Those shoes always slip when I’m running. When I did the two-finger test, I could easily fit three fingers behind my heel. Just like I thought.

Next, I tried my boots. They felt snug with only one finger. I could barely even get my finger in the back. Guess those are a bit too small, but I still wear them. Maybe it’s ok. I even checked my slippers with the two finger test, and those seemed just right.

After testing out all my shoes, I feel like a shoe expert. This whole two-finger thing is kind of interesting. I never realized there was such a simple way to check if your shoes fit right. I’m definitely going to keep this trick in mind the next time I buy shoes. It’s easy to do, and it seems pretty accurate. Plus, it’s kind of fun to do.
