Okay, so I’ve been thinking about changing up my hairstyle for a while now. I was getting kinda bored with the same old look, you know? So I decided to dive into the world of short modern men’s hairstyles. It’s a jungle out there, let me tell you!

First things first, I started scrolling through some pictures online. I needed some inspiration. I saw a bunch of different styles, from super short buzz cuts to something a bit longer and spikier. I realized pretty quickly that I wanted something easy to manage. Ain’t nobody got time for high-maintenance hair, especially not me.
I came across this one style, it was a buzz cut but with faded sides. I liked that it is so simple, clean, and seems really low maintenance. It looked really sharp. So, I thought, “Why not?” I mean the worst thing is you don’t like it and you have to wait it to grow a little longer. But I really liked how it looked on Michael B Jordan, so I decided to go for it.
Before I did anything drastic, I went down a rabbit hole reading about different hair types. Turns out, I’ve got what they call “3a” curls. They’re not super tight, but they’re definitely there. I’ve always just kinda dealt with them, but apparently, there’s a whole world of products and techniques specifically for 3a hair. Who knew? It sounded like my curls could work with a shorter style, as long as it was cut right.
With that in mind, I decided to take the plunge and go for that buzz cut with the faded sides. I figured it would be a good way to reset my hair, try something totally different. I made an appointment at the barbershop, showed the barber the picture, and said, “Let’s do it.” He seemed to know what he was doing, so that was reassuring.
He got to work, buzzing away, and I watched in the mirror as my hair got shorter and shorter. It was a little nerve-wracking at first, but also kinda exciting. When he got to the fading part, he blended it really nicely, so it wasn’t a harsh line or anything.

The whole thing took maybe 30 minutes? When he was done, I was surprised. I actually liked it! It looked clean, modern, and way different than anything I’d had before. He also suggested that the perfect length for my ringlets to shine is no more than two to three inches below the shoulder when my hair is straight or at my shoulder when hair is styled curly. And he also mentioned that styling 3A as a round-shaped cut can often compliment the curls. I really like his suggestions and I think they worked well on my hair!
So now I’m rocking a buzz cut with faded sides. It’s definitely a change, but I’m digging it. It’s super easy to style in the morning, which is a huge plus. I just run a little product through it, and I’m good to go. I might play around with some different products later, to see what works best, but for now, I’m happy with the simplicity. And about the suggestions that the barber gave me, I think I will try them out the next time I go to the barbershop.
And you know what? I learned something new about my hair type along the way. Maybe I’ll even try embracing my curls a bit more in the future. It’s funny how a simple haircut can open up a whole new world of possibilities.
So, there you have it. My journey into the world of short modern men’s hairstyles. It was a bit of an adventure, but I’m happy with the results. If you’re thinking about changing up your hair, I say go for it! You might just surprise yourself.
