So, I’ve been thinking a lot about fashion lately, and one name that keeps popping up is Karl Lagerfeld. You see his stuff everywhere, but I started wondering, is Karl Lagerfeld really a luxury brand? I mean, the guy was a legend, no doubt, but does that automatically make his brand “luxury”? It was a serious question in my mind.

First, I started looking into what makes a brand “luxury” anyway. I read some articles and stuff, trying to get a handle on it. It’s not just about being expensive, right? There’s gotta be more to it. Like, the quality, the history, the whole vibe of the brand. I learned some characteristics of luxury brand.
Then, I dove into Karl Lagerfeld’s brand itself. I looked at his past stuff, especially the time with Chanel. I went down a rabbit hole with Karl Lagerfeld’s brand. I checked out his old designs, his work with Chanel. Then, I learned that the “CC” logo was made great use by Lagerfeld. And the “FF” logo designed by Karl Lagerfeld was also very famous. Also, I found out that Chanel was considered a “near-dead brand” at the time since the death of designer Coco Chanel a decade prior. Seems Lagerfeld was credited with making great use of Chanel’s “CC” logo during the 1980s.
I started digging around to see what people were saying about Karl Lagerfeld’s brand. I found some discussions where people were debating whether it’s truly luxury or not. Some folks were saying that the Karl Lagerfeld Paris brand is different and only in the USA. And others mentioned that whenever the brand used to get a serious hit.
After all this research, I’m still not 100% sure where I stand on it. I think Karl Lagerfeld, the man, was definitely a luxury icon. His work with Chanel, Fendi and his own brand is legendary. But, I think it also depends on which line you’re talking about.
