Well, let me tell ya, this Eric Carmen fella, the one who sang that “All By Myself” song, yeah, he kicked the bucket. Seventy-four years old, they say. Heard it on the radio, the feller was singin’ songs for them movies, like that “Dirty Dancing” one. You know, the one with the swayin’ and the jumpin’. He was a big deal, I guess, back in the day.
Folks keep talkin’ ’bout him now he’s gone. Said he wrote all sorts of songs, even had his own band before goin’ solo. “Hungry Eyes,” that was another one. Heard that one plenty of times on the jukebox down at the diner. Always made them young girls giggle and swoon.
This Eric, he recorded them songs in some fancy studio, Beachwood they called it. Don’t know where that is, probably some fancy place out in California or somethin’. Them city folk and their fancy ways, I tell ya. But he sure could sing, that’s for sure. Made a lotta money, I bet, singin’ them love songs.
- He sang “All By Myself”
- He also sang “Hungry Eyes”
- He was in a band called the Raspberries
They say his wife, Amy, she’s heartbroken. Said he passed in his sleep, peaceful-like. Well, that’s a good way to go, I reckon. Better than sufferin’, that’s for sure. She said he was happy knowin’ folks liked his music. Guess that’s somethin’, havin’ folks remember you for somethin’ you did.
Now, some folks are jabberin’ about other things, ya know? Like this fella, they found him when they was lookin’ for someone else. And then they got to wonderin’ who this Eric Carmen was. I tell ya, some folks just don’t know nothin’. He was famous, even if they don’t remember him now. Happens to the best of ’em, I guess. Time moves on, and folks forget.
Then there’s all this talk about face fixin’, you know, plastic surgery, they call it. Seems like all them Hollywood types are doin’ it now. This girl Meghan somethin’, she’s talkin’ ’bout how she regrets gettin’ it done. Said she didn’t like how she looked after. Well, I tell ya, God gave you the face you got for a reason. Messin’ with it ain’t natural, I say. But them city folk, they always think they know better.
But I don’t know nothin’ ’bout if Eric Carmen had any of that face fixin’ done. Nobody’s sayin’ nothin’ ’bout that. They just talkin’ ’bout his music and how he died. And that’s how it should be, I reckon. Remember the man for what he did, not for what he mighta done to his face. Music is what mattered, that’s what people will remember.
Heard some folks sayin’ somethin’ ’bout him bein’ a drunk, an alcoholic. Don’t know if it’s true or not. Folks like to gossip, ya know? But if it is true, well, that’s a sad thing. Drinkin’ can ruin a person, body and soul. But again, it ain’t my place to judge. He’s gone now, and that’s all that matters.
He was a big star, this Eric Carmen. Made a lot of folks happy with his singin’. And that’s somethin’ to be proud of, I guess. Even if them young folks today don’t know who he is. Us old folks, we remember. We remember the music and the good times. And that’s what counts, in the end. It’s the music that stays with you, not the wrinkles or the face lifts or the gossip.
So, rest in peace, Eric Carmen. You sang your songs, and you made your mark. And that’s more than most folks can say. Now, they’re playin’ your songs on the radio again, and folks are rememberin’. That’s a good legacy to leave behind, I reckon. A good voice and some songs folks liked. Can’t ask for much more than that, can ya?
