SBGH337 Review: Is It the Best Watch Under 5000?

by Alice Browne

Alright, let’s talk about them fancy watches, the ones city folks like so much. I ain’t no expert, mind you, but I’ve seen a thing or two, and I know what folks like.

Are these watches worth the money? That’s what everyone wants to know, right?

Well, take that Grand Seiko thingamajig, for example. Folks say it’s a good “investment,” like putting your money in a jar and burying it in the backyard, I guess. But this here jar, you can wear it on your wrist! They say you can always sell it later, get some money back. That’s good, seein’ as things are so expensive these days.

But here’s the thing, them Grand Seiko watches, they scratch easy. That titanium stuff, it ain’t as tough as it looks. So, if you’re gonna wear it, like a normal person, don’t expect to get all your money back. It’s like a good pair of shoes, you wear ‘em, they get worn, you know? If you just stick it in a drawer and never touch it, well, that’s a different story. But what’s the point of having a fancy watch if you don’t show it off, right?

Now, they say these Grand Seiko watches are made real good. Real fancy craftsmanship, they call it. Made by some master craftsmen, wherever that is. Sounds important, I guess. They got all sorts of prices, but they say even the cheaper ones are good quality. That’s important, you don’t wanna buy somethin’ that falls apart the next day. Like them cheap toys they sell at the market, last a week if you’re lucky.

  • Quality: They say it’s good, real good. But I reckon you gotta see it for yourself.
  • Price: Lots of different prices, some high, some not so high. Like pickin’ apples, some are big and pretty, some are small and bruised.
  • Resale Value: You can sell it, but don’t expect to get rich. Unless you never wear it, but that’s just silly.

Then there’s this other watch, the IWC Pilot thingy. Costs a pretty penny, almost five thousand dollars! Can you believe that? That’s like a whole year’s worth of groceries for some folks. Made of stainless steel, that’s supposed to be tough stuff. I guess it better be for that price!

I don’t know nothin’ about flying no planes, but this watch is supposed to be for pilots. Maybe it tells them which way the wind is blowin’, or somethin’. City folk, they like fancy things, even if they don’t need ’em. Like them big trucks they drive around, never hauled a thing in their lives. But hey, if they got the money, who am I to judge?

So, which one is better? Grand Seiko or IWC?

Beats me. Sounds like they’re both good watches, if you got the money to spend. One’s fancy and scratches easy, the other’s tough and costs a fortune. Pick your poison, I say. Me? I’ll stick with my old clock on the wall, tells the time just fine, and it don’t cost me a thing to keep it runnin’.

But if I had to choose, and money wasn’t a problem, which it sure is, I reckon I’d go with the tough one. Stainless steel, that sounds like it can take a beatin’. I’ve seen enough things break in my life, I don’t need another delicate thing to worry about. And five thousand dollars? Well, that’s a lot of money, but if it lasts a long time, maybe it’s worth it. Like a good plow, you buy it once, and it works for years.

But remember, these are just my thoughts, and I’m just an old woman. You gotta make up your own mind, do your own research. Don’t listen to everything you hear, especially from those city slickers trying to sell you somethin’. They’ll tell you anything to get your money. Just be careful, that’s all I’m sayin’. And don’t go spendin’ money you don’t have on somethin’ you don’t need. That’s just common sense, ain’t it?

At the end of the day, a watch is just a watch. It tells the time. And time, well, that’s the most precious thing of all. You can’t buy it, you can’t sell it, and you can’t get it back once it’s gone. So, spend it wisely.
