Okay, so, I got this email about the casting call for Project Runway Season 20. I’ve been a fan of this show since, like, forever, so, of course, I jumped at the chance. It was around February, when the casting was expected to start, that I started getting all my stuff together.

First things first, I gathered all my best designs. I mean, I had a ton of sketches and a few finished pieces I was really proud of. I’m into this whole African-inspired vibe, similar to what Korto Momolu brought to the show. I spent days organizing everything, making sure my portfolio looked top-notch. I even practiced talking about my designs, imagining I was already in front of the judges, you know?
Then came the application. Oh boy, that was something. I filled out the forms, wrote about my design philosophy, my inspirations, and why I thought I deserved a spot on the show. It felt a bit bittersweet, you know? Like, this could be my big break, but also, what if I didn’t make it? It was nerve-wracking.
- Gathered designs and portfolio materials.
- Filled out the application form.
- Wrote about design philosophy and inspiration.
I also did some digging about the show. Found out that they don’t even pay the contestants, and many people had to quit their jobs just to participate. That was a bit of a shock. But, I was still determined. I read that Christian Siriano, one of my fashion idols, was the youngest winner ever. That just fueled my fire even more.
I learned that Season 20 was going to be an All-Stars season, which made it even more exciting. They were bringing back designers from previous seasons, like Brittany Allen from Season 18, she was a fan favorite! The anticipation was building up, and I was so pumped.
Waiting Game
After submitting everything, it was just a waiting game. I kept myself busy, working on new designs, watching old episodes of the show. The news about Karlie Kloss taking over hosting duties for a couple of seasons was interesting. I mean, change is good, right?

I also found out that there would be some cool guest judges for Season 20, like Alicia Silverstone and the CEO of Alice + Olivia, Stacey Bendet. The thought of potentially presenting my designs to them was just wild.
Finally, after what felt like ages, I got the call. I made it to the next round! It was one of the best feelings ever. I was going to be on Project Runway! Well, at least I was going to compete to get onto it, you know? I packed my bags, flew to New York, and the rest, as they say, is history. It was a crazy, exciting, and challenging experience, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Celebrating the 20th season of Project Runway was such a great thing! It started out a little bittersweet for me, but it is really a great chance.
