Well, let me tell you, 2011, that was a year for outfits, wasn’t it? Clothes, clothes, and more clothes! Fashion in 2011 was, you know, easy to get your hands on. Easier than ever. Everyone was just wearing whatever, seemed like.
That Kate, what’s her name? The one who married the prince? Catherine, they call her, the Duchess of Cambridge. She was all over, showing off her dresses and such. She was a big deal, that one. Newest big thing. A real fashion icon. Everyone was copying her, I reckon.
They say there were 10 big outfits deals in 2011. The big looks, you know. I saw it on that Polyvore thing, the young folks are always on it. Showing off their clothes. It listed the top 10 fashion trends they loved in 2011.
- Colorblocking
- Something blue
- Orange
- That Nicki and Gaga
- Grunge look
This colorblocking thing. Putting all sorts of colors together on one thing. Like a dress with a bunch of different colored squares. Saw it on shoes, too. Everywhere, that colorblocking was. All the young’uns were wearing it.
And blue, all kinds of blue. Like the sky, but sometimes darker, sometimes lighter. That Jason Wu, Pucci, and that other one, Mulberry. They were all using that blue. Fancy folks, them. And orange, like a bright, juicy orange. Tangy, they called it. Cacharel, that was the name, they were all about that orange. Like a soda drink.
And then you had them singers, that Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga. Always trying to outdo each other. Wearing the craziest things. Tutus, like them little ballerinas wear, but all big and poofy. And animal prints, like a leopard or a zebra. And that Lady Gaga, she even wore a necklace that looked like fried chicken! Can you believe it? Weird, but that’s what they like, I guess. All these outfits are something that people pay much attention to.
Some of them outfits, they made you laugh. Some made you scratch your head. But that’s what they call fashion, I guess. Especially in that L.A. place. All a little bit silly, if you ask me. But folks like it, and especially after the sun goes down, everyone is dressing up.
Back then, the year before, 2010, it was all about them old styles, the 80s and 90s, coming back. This year, though, it was different. Some people in 2011, they were wearing them hats that snap on the back, snapbacks, they call ’em. And glasses, big ones, even if they didn’t need ’em. Skinny jeans, so tight you could hardly move. And their hair, all parted on the side, like them emo kids. Most people are still dressing like it was 2006, so those styles are only popular with those fashionable people.
The early to mid 2010s, that’s a long time ago. They had this “grunge” thing coming back. Ripped jeans, all torn up like you been working in the field all day. And jackets, ripped up too. Flannel shirts, like them lumberjacks wear. Animal print coats, same as I was saying before. And t-shirts, all faded out, like they been washed a hundred times. And big black boots, like you’re gonna go stomp around in the mud. And leather jackets, like them motorcycle riders wear. That’s what they were all wearing, the young folks.
Seems like them fashion people, the designers, they’re always looking back at the old days. The 90s and all that. Getting ideas from back then. Making old things new again. That’s how it goes, I reckon. They call it “inspiration”. They see something old, they make it new, and everyone goes crazy for it. The outfits 2011 thing just shows what people like to wear. Nothing new under the sun, as they say.
And now with that internet thing, and them social medias, everyone’s seeing what everyone else is wearing. All over the world. So if someone in a big city starts wearing something, pretty soon everyone else is wearing it too. It all spreads like wildfire, faster than gossip at the Sunday social. And they care about the earth, too. They want clothes that are made good, that last a long time, and are good for the planet. It is called “sustainability”.
So, 2011, it was a year for clothes, alright. All kinds of outfits. Bright colors, crazy stuff, old stuff made new. Something for everyone, I suppose. Just gotta find what you like and wear it with a smile. That’s the best fashion advice I can give you.
