Need a Substitute? Heres What Can You Use as a Temporary Earring Back

by Alice Browne

Okay, so the other day, I lost the back of one of my favorite earrings. You know, the kind you wear all the time? It was super frustrating! I really wanted to wear them, but obviously, I couldn’t with just the post sticking out.

Need a Substitute? Heres What Can You Use as a Temporary Earring Back

So I started looking around my apartment, thinking there had to be something I could use temporarily. I didn’t want to go out and buy new backs right away, and I definitely didn’t want to risk losing the front of the earring, too.

My Search and Discovery

  • First, I checked my jewelry box, hoping maybe a spare back had magically appeared. No luck.
  • Then, I rummaged through my desk drawers. I thought maybe a pencil eraser could work, you know, in a pinch?

And that’s when it hit me! A pencil eraser! I grabbed a pencil and carefully sliced off a small piece of the eraser with a knife. I made sure it wasn’t too big, just enough to fit snugly on the earring post.

I pushed the little eraser piece onto the back of my earring, and it worked perfectly! It held the earring in place, and it wasn’t even noticeable. I was so relieved!

It wasn’t a perfect solution, of course. I wouldn’t want to do that every day, and I definitely ordered some replacement backs online later. But for a few hours, it was a total lifesaver! It just goes to show, sometimes the simplest solutions are right in front of you. You just have to get a little creative!
