Alright, let’s talk about this here… uh… Lacoste L12 12 Blanc shirt, or somethin’ like that. My grandson, he’s a fancy fella, always buyin’ these kinda things. Says it’s the “in” thing, whatever that means.
So, this shirt, looks like a regular shirt to me, but they say it’s special. Real special, they say. They call it a “polo” shirt. Back in my day, a polo was somethin’ you played on a horse, not somethin’ you wear! But times change, I guess.
This Lacoste fella, Ren somethin’-or-other, he made this shirt way back in, when was it? 1933? That’s a long, long time ago. Must be good if it’s still around, huh? They say it’s made of this “petit pique” cotton. Don’t ask me what that is. Feels like cotton to me, soft and kinda…bumpy. But they say it breathes good, so you don’t get all sweaty. That’s important, I guess, if you’re runnin’ around playin’… whatever young folks play these days.
They got all sorts of colors, but this “blanc” one, that’s just plain white. Clean and simple, like a good Sunday shirt. My grandson, he got one in bright blue too. Said it’s the color of the sky, or somethin’ poetic like that. Kids these days!
- It’s got a collar, you know, that thing that goes around your neck. Keeps the sun off, I guess.
- And buttons! Two of ’em. Fancy buttons too, they say they’re “mother-of-pearl.” Sounds expensive.
- Short sleeves, for when it’s warm. Not good for winter, unless you wear somethin’ over it. Common sense, ain’t it?
Now, how you wear this thing, I ain’t too sure. My grandson, he wears it with jeans, sometimes with them fancy pants, what do they call ’em? Chinos? He even wears it with shorts when it’s hot. Looks alright, I guess. Clean-cut, you know? Like he’s goin’ to a picnic or somethin’. But he says you can dress it up too, wear it with a jacket and nice shoes. Seems like a lot of fuss for a shirt, but what do I know?
This Ren fella, he was smart. He didn’t just make a shirt, he made a whole… thing. A style, they call it. This L12 12 shirt, it’s got a number, like a secret code. “L” for Lacoste, I get that. The numbers, they mean somethin’ about the material and the sleeves and how many tries it took to get it right. Twelve tries! That’s a lot of shirts to mess up, but I guess he got it right in the end.
And they even got a smell to go with it! A “fragrance,” they call it. 12.12 Blanc, just like the shirt. Woody and manly, they say. Smells like… well, it smells like a man, I guess. Not like my old man, he smelled like dirt and sweat from workin’ the fields. This is a different kind of smell, clean and sharp. My grandson sprays it on before he goes out, thinks he’s all fancy. Makes him smell better than the barn, that’s for sure.
So, this Lacoste L12 12 Blanc shirt, it’s more than just a shirt, I guess. It’s a… a symbol, maybe? Of bein’ stylish and put-together. Of havin’ good taste, even if you don’t know nothin’ about “petit pique” cotton or mother-of-pearl buttons. It’s a classic, they tell me. Been around for ages and still goin’ strong. Kinda like me, I guess. Just a bit more expensive.
And let me tell you somethin’, this ain’t no workin’ shirt. You ain’t gonna be wearin’ this to slop the pigs or hoe the garden. This is for lookin’ good, for goin’ out and impressin’ folks. Or for just feelin’ a little bit fancy, even if you’re just sittin’ on the porch sippin’ lemonade. It’s a simple thing, really, but sometimes simple is good. Simple is strong. And this shirt, well, it’s stood the test of time, just like an old oak tree. Or me.
So, if you got some extra money and wanna feel a little bit fancy, go ahead and get yourself one of these Lacoste shirts. Just don’t wear it to muck out the stalls, okay?
