Well, let me tell ya ’bout this shoe, the Kobe 8 “What the Kobe”. Folks keep talkin’ ’bout it, so I figured I’d take a look-see.
What is this “Kobe 8 What the Kobe” anyway?
Now, from what I gather, this ain’t just any ol’ shoe. It’s a special one, see? They call it the “What the Kobe” and it’s a mix-up of all sorts of colors and patterns from other Kobe shoes. Sounds like a whole lotta somethin’, don’t it?
- First off, they say it came out way back in 2013. That’s a long time ago, even for an old gal like me.
- Then, they started makin’ noise about bringin’ it back again, this time they call it “Protro”. Sounds fancy, but I reckon it just means they made it better or somethin’.
- And this new one, they’re sayin’ it’s comin’ out in 2024 or maybe 2025. Folks are gettin’ all riled up about it, like it’s the second comin’ or somethin’.
Looks and Feels, I Guess
I seen some pictures of this shoe, and let me tell ya, it’s somethin’ else. It’s got colors everywhere, like somebody spilled a whole box of crayons on it. Greens, blues, yellows, reds… you name it, it’s probably on there. And the patterns, oh boy, stripes, zigzags, dots… it’s a real hodgepodge. Makes my head spin just lookin’ at it. But I guess that’s the point, right? It’s supposed to be wild.
They say it’s a basketball shoe, for playin’ that sport with the ball and the hoops. Never really understood that game myself, too much runnin’ around for my taste. But they say this shoe is good for it, helps you jump higher and run faster. Maybe so, maybe so. I reckon it’s gotta be comfortable, though. They talk about laces and padded tongues, makin’ sure your feet don’t hurt. That’s important, you know, especially when you get to be my age.
Why All the Fuss?
Now, I keep hearin’ folks talkin’ about this Kobe fella. Seems like he was a big deal in that basketball thing. And these shoes, they’re his shoes, or at least they got his name on ’em. So I guess that’s why folks are so keen on gettin’ their hands on ’em. They want a piece of that Kobe magic, or somethin’ like that.
And then there’s the whole “limited edition” thing. Apparently, they don’t make a whole lot of these shoes, so everybody wants ’em. It’s like when they used to have them special sales down at the general store, everybody rushin’ in to get the good stuff before it’s all gone. Same kinda thing, I reckon.
Old Lady Thoughts on Fancy Shoes
Well, I ain’t no expert on shoes, that’s for sure. I wear what’s comfortable and what keeps my feet dry. But I can see why folks might like this “What the Kobe” shoe. It’s certainly eye-catchin’, that’s for sure. And if it helps you play basketball better, well, that’s a good thing, I suppose.
Personally, I think it’s a bit much. All them colors and patterns, it’s just too loud for me. But then again, I’m an old lady, what do I know about fashion? Young folks these days, they like their things bright and flashy. And that’s alright, I guess. To each their own, as they say.
Sizing and Such
Oh, and I almost forgot. They say these shoes, they fit true to size. That means if you wear a size whatever, you should get a size whatever. Makes sense, I guess. And they got all kinds of sizes, even big ones for them fellas with giant feet. I heard they go all the way up to a size 18. Land sakes, that’s a big foot! I wear a size 6, myself. Used to be a 5, but your feet, they grow as you get older, just like your nose and ears. Don’t ask me why, it’s just one of them things.

So, there you have it. My two cents on this “Kobe 8 What the Kobe” shoe. It’s colorful, it’s loud, it’s popular, and it’s probably gonna cost you a pretty penny. But if you like it, and you can afford it, then go ahead and get yourself a pair. Just don’t expect me to wear ’em. I’ll stick to my comfy old slippers, thank you very much.
And one more thing, they had a “Pit Viper” colorway too, but that’s a story for another day. This “What the Kobe”, well, it’s a whole different animal, like a patchwork quilt but for your feet. And folks seem to like it, so more power to ’em.
