Okay, so I’ve been seeing this “fringe perm” thing all over my socials, and honestly, I was intrigued. My hair is pretty straight and, well, boring. I wanted some texture, some oomph, you know? So, I decided to give it a shot. I am not a professional, so I started by watching the tutorial videos.

Getting Started
First things first, I gathered all my stuff. I got:
- A perm kit (I just grabbed one from the drugstore, nothing fancy).
- Some perm rods – the skinny ones, because I wanted tighter curls.
- End papers (these are important, trust me).
- Gloves – gotta protect those hands!
- A towel I didn’t mind ruining.
- A timer.
The Process (aka The Messy Part)
I started with clean, damp hair. Then, the real fun began. Sectioning my hair was probably the hardest part. I tried to make them neat, but let’s be real, it wasn’t perfect. I put an end paper on the end of each section, then wrapped it around a perm rod. I rolled the hair by twisting and turning * sounds way easier than it is, especially when you’re doing the back of your head!
Once all the rods were in (and I looked like a crazy person), I carefully applied the perm solution. I made sure every rod was soaked, following the instructions on the box. Then, I put on the plastic cap that came with the kit and waited. This is where the timer comes in handy. I set it for the minimum time recommended, because I was nervous about frying my hair.
The Rinse and Reveal
After what felt like forever, the timer went off. I rinsed my hair thoroughly with the rods still in. Seriously, rinse, rinse, rinse! Then, I applied the neutralizer, which is supposed to stop the perming process. Another wait, another rinse. Finally, I took out the rods, one by one.
I was initially scared. My hair was super curly and frizzy when it was wet. But, as it started to dry, I could see the waves forming. And you know what? It actually looked pretty good!

The Aftermath
It’s been a few days, and I’m still loving my fringe perm. It’s definitely given my hair the texture I was craving. It’s not perfect, there are a few wonky curls here and there, but overall, I’m happy with how it turned out. It’s like I have a whole new hairstyle! My hair looks thicker and more volume.
Would I do it again? Probably! It was a bit of a process, but it was worth it for the results. Just make sure you do your research and are prepared for a bit of a messy adventure.
