Okay, so, a while back, I accidentally bought this sweater, right? It was huge, like, way too big. I was bummed because I really liked the style, but it looked ridiculous on me. So, I did what any sensible person would do – I decided to try and shrink it.

First off, I checked the care label, you know, to see what it was made of and if there were any specific washing instructions. Turns out it was mostly wool, which is known to shrink, so I had a good feeling about this.
Next, I filled up my bathtub with hot water. Not scalding hot, but definitely warmer than what I’d usually use for laundry. Then, I tossed the sweater in and made sure it was fully submerged. I let it soak for a good half hour, kind of like a long, hot bath for the sweater.
- Soaked the sweater for 30 minutes.
- Checked it now and then to see if I could notice any shrinking.
After the soak, I gently squeezed out the excess water. I didn’t wring it or anything, just a gentle press to get most of the water out. Then, I laid it flat on a towel and rolled it up like a burrito to absorb even more water. Contrary to popular belief, this is important. I repeat: do not wring it out!
Now, for the risky part. I put the damp sweater in the dryer. I know, I know, it sounds crazy, but I was careful. I set the dryer to a medium heat setting and kept a close eye on it. Every few minutes, I’d check on the sweater, making sure it wasn’t shrinking too much or getting damaged.
- Used medium heat in the dryer.
- Checked the sweater frequently.
It took a while, but eventually, the sweater started to shrink. I was so relieved! I kept drying it until it was just the right size, and then I took it out and laid it flat to air dry completely.

The Result
And guess what? It worked! The sweater shrunk down to a perfect fit. I was so stoked that I didn’t have to get rid of it. It was a bit of a process, but totally worth it in the end. Now I have a perfectly fitting sweater that I love, and I learned a valuable lesson about shrinking clothes. I wear it all the time.
Anyway, just thought I’d share my little sweater shrinking adventure. Maybe it’ll help someone else out there with an oversized garment problem.
