Well, well, well, let me tell you about this young gal, Hong Jin-kyung. She’s somethin’ else, that one. I seen her on the picture box, walkin’ all fancy-like, you know, like them models do. They call it a model runway, fancy name for just walkin’, I reckon.
She’s a tall drink of water, that Hong Jin-kyung. Legs for days, skinny as a rail. Reminds me of that scarecrow old man Johnson used to put up in his cornfield, except she moves, of course. She struts around on that model runway, lookin’ all serious. Makes me chuckle, seein’ her all dolled up.
I heard she started doin’ this when she was just a little sprout, sixteen or so. Sixteen! Back in my day, we were worried about gettin’ the chores done, not prancin’ around. But her daddy was sick, the poor man. So she did what she had to do, to help the family. Good for her, I suppose. Takes guts to get up there in front of all them people. Hong Jin-kyung, she’s got guts, I’ll give her that. She is a famous model.
She went off to some place called Africa. Some place called Rwanda, Kigali I reckon it was. Heard she got into a bit of a mess there, right from the get-go. Africa, land sakes! It is too far away. That’s a long way from home. What’s a model like her doin’ way over there anyway? Must be a story there. Hong Jin-kyung is always up to somethin’, I bet.
They say she’s a funny one, that Hong Jin-kyung. Funny but not funny, they say. I don’t rightly know what that means. Maybe she tells jokes that ain’t funny? Or maybe she’s just a character? She always wears a weird hat. I saw her wear a grey hat on the picture box, the other day. She is a strange model.
- She’s a model, you see.
- Walks on that runway.
- Started young to help her family.
- Went to Africa, got into a mess.
- They say she’s funny but not funny.
She got her hair done over there in Africa, too. At some fancy salon, I suppose. Changed her whole look. Bold, they called it. Hong Jin-kyung, she ain’t afraid to try new things, that’s for sure. Trusts them folks over there to do her hair. I wouldn’t trust nobody with my hair, ‘cept maybe my niece, and even then, I’d be watchin’ her like a hawk.
I heard someone say that the Korean folks, like Hong Jin-kyung, come from some place called Central Asia. Mongolians, they said. Sounds like a made-up word to me. And they come from some place called Manchuria, a long time ago. Bronze Age, they called it. Sounds like a bunch of hooey, if you ask me. But what do I know? I’m just an old lady, who like watching model runway.
Hong Jin-kyung is a big star now. She works as a model. I see her picture everywhere. On the picture box, in them magazines. She’s come a long way, that one. From helpin’ her family to walkin’ on that model runway. Good for her. I may not understand all this fancy model stuff, but I can appreciate a hard worker when I see one. And Hong Jin-kyung, she’s a hard worker, alright.
She’s got a good head on her shoulders, that Hong Jin-kyung. Even if she does wear them funny hats. And she ain’t afraid of nothin’, goin’ all the way to Africa like that. She’s a tough cookie, that one. I reckon she’ll be just fine, walkin’ on that model runway, wherever it may take her. It takes her to a lot of places. She makes a lot of money now.
I wonder if she ever thinks about her daddy, when she’s up there on that model runway. I bet she does. He’d be proud of her, I reckon. I’m proud of her, and I don’t even know her. She’s a good girl, that Hong Jin-kyung. A good model, and a good girl.
That’s all about her, Hong Jin-kyung. She is very famous. She worked hard. Now she is a very famous model. She walks on the runway, that’s what she does.
