Okay, so I’ve been totally obsessed with Grimes’ style lately. It’s just so… out there. I decided I needed to try and understand it, maybe even incorporate a little bit of it into my own look. So, I started this little project to break down her fashion.
Diving In
First, I scrolled through tons of pictures of her. Like, tons. I made a huge folder on my computer just for Grimes inspo pics. I noticed some repeating themes pretty quickly:
- Cyberpunk vibes: Lots of shiny fabrics, like PVC and metallics. Think “Blade Runner” but make it fashion.
- Fantasy elements: Elf ears, fairy wings, even swords sometimes! She’s not afraid to go full-on mythical creature.
- Mixing high and low: She’ll pair a designer gown with, like, combat boots and crazy neon hair. It’s this awesome juxtaposition.
- Bold colors and patterns: Nothing is off-limits. Bright pink, electric blue, clashing prints – she does it all.
- DIY and upcycled stuff: I’ve seen her wear things that look like they were made from scraps or repurposed materials. It gives it a cool, edgy feel.
The Experiment
Then, I started playing around with my own clothes.I took stock of the clothes I own and try my best to find the ones that are fit for this style, but I don’t have much, though. I didn’t want to just copy her outfits exactly – that’s not the point.I picked out some pieces that kind of fit the categories I’d identified.I tried layering things in unexpected ways, like a sparkly crop top over a long-sleeved mesh shirt. I even found some old, colorful scarves and tried tying them in my hair. It felt…weird, but also kind of cool.
Results and the looks
Honestly, it was a bit of a mixed bag. Some of the looks I put together felt totally ridiculous. Like, I’m not going to walk around with elf ears on a Tuesday, you know? But some of it actually worked. I discovered I actually liked the contrast of a flowy, feminine dress with some chunky, clunky shoes. It felt like I was channeling a tiny bit of that Grimes energy, but still being myself.
I realized that her style is about more than just the clothes. It’s about the attitude. It’s about being fearless and experimental and not caring what anyone else thinks. And that’s something I can definitely get behind, even if I’m not ready for a full-on cyberpunk makeover just yet.
It’s been a fun little experiment, though. I definitely feel like I’ve expanded my fashion horizons a bit, and I’m more open to trying new things now. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll be brave enough to rock a pair of fairy wings in public!
