Well, let me tell ya ’bout them fancy clothes they wear on that Gilded Age show, season two and all.
I ain’t no scholar or nothin’, but I watch that show, and them dresses, my oh my, they somethin’ else. That lady, Kasia Walicka-Maimone, she the one makin’ them fancy duds. They say she looks at old pictures and stuff from way back when, them 1880s, you know? But she makes ’em even bigger and fancier. I reckon that’s what they call “amping things up”. Seen somethin’ on the TV ’bout it, how she does the old money folks different from the new money ones.
Them HBO folks, they spendin’ a pretty penny on them clothes and all the fancy stuff you see on the show. It’s like they got a whole heap of money just to make folks look good. Don’t make no sense to me, but it sure is somethin’ to look at.
- The show’s set way back, late 1800s they say
- Lots of fancy dresses and suits, you know, like rich folks wearin’
- They got this one episode, “Wonders Never Cease,” where this Ada Brook lady, she’s got somethin’ goin’ on
Now, I don’t know much about fashion or them big city ways, but I can tell you them dresses are somethin’ special. They got all sorts of shiny stuff, and them big skirts that go swoosh, swoosh when they walk. Must take a whole lotta fabric to make one of them things, I tell ya. And them hats! Some of ’em are so big, they look like they could topple right over.
They got this Gladys Russell girl, and that George Russell fella, they always dressed to the nines. You can tell they got money, just by lookin’ at ’em. Them Vogue people, they go on and on about it too. Guess it’s a big deal, this fashion stuff. But to me, it’s just pretty to look at, like watchin’ the birds flit about in the garden, but a whole lot shinier.
This Kasia Walicke Maimone lady, she knows her stuff, that’s for sure. I heard tell she puts a lot of thought into what each person wears. It ain’t just about lookin’ fancy, it’s about tellin’ a story with them clothes. Like, you can tell who’s got old money and who’s got new money, just by lookin’ at how they dressed. The old money folks, they got them classic looks, you know, like your grandma’s fancy tablecloth, but made into a dress. And the new money folks, they wanna show off, so they got all the latest styles, even if they don’t quite fit in.
I reckon it’s like goin’ to church on Sunday. You got your folks who wear the same old suit every week, and then you got the ones who show up in somethin’ new and flashy every time. It’s just the way folks are, I guess. Always tryin’ to show off a little bit, or stick to what they know.
But let me tell ya, some of them dresses, they just ain’t practical. I can’t imagine tryin’ to do chores in one of them things. You’d be trippin’ over your own skirt all day long. And them corsets! They look like they squeeze the life right outta ya. I’d rather wear my old overalls any day, thank you very much.
Still, it’s fun to watch ’em on TV, all dressed up in their finery. It’s like lookin’ at a picture book, but the pictures move. And sometimes, I even catch myself dreamin’ about wearin’ one of them fancy dresses, just for a day. But then I remember I got chickens to feed and laundry to hang, and I come right back down to earth.
So, yeah, that’s my take on them Gilded Age costumes. They fancy, they shiny, and they tell a story. And that Kasia lady, she sure knows how to make folks look good, even if them clothes ain’t somethin’ I’d ever wear myself. But hey, it’s entertainment right? It ain’t meant to be practical, it’s meant to be purdy. And that it surely is.
It’s like watchin’ a parade go by, all them fancy folks in their finery. You just sit back and enjoy the show. And that’s what I do, every time I watch that Gilded Age show. Just sit back, admire the pretty dresses, and thank the good Lord I ain’t gotta wear nothin’ that uncomfortable myself. But it sure do make for good watchin’, that’s for sure. And who knows, maybe next season they’ll have even bigger hats!
