Get the Look: 90s Earrings Styles for Every Occasion

by Meredith Sassoon

Okay, so I got this crazy idea the other day – I wanted to make some earrings, but not just any earrings. I was feeling super nostalgic, and I was like, “I need some 90s vibes in my life!” So, boom, 90s-themed earrings it was.

First things first, I scavenged for materials. I hit up my local craft store – you know, the one with all the beads and glitter and stuff you never knew you needed until you saw it? Yeah, that place. I grabbed some colorful beads, some of those tiny little charms that were popular back in the day like little smiley faces and peace signs, and, of course, some earring hooks.

Getting Down to Business

  • Step 1: Planning it out. I laid everything out on my table and just started messing around with different combinations. It was like a puzzle, trying to figure out which colors and charms went best together. I’m, like, no expert jewelry maker so I sketched a few ideas in my notebook, just super rough, to see my plan.
  • Step 2: Beading it up. For some of the earrings, I wanted that classic beaded look. So, I carefully threaded the beads onto some thin, flexible wire. I went for a mix of bright neon colors – pink, yellow, green, the works. I tried to make them symmetrical, but, you know, sometimes it’s more fun when they’re a little mismatched.
  • Step 3: Charm time. For other earrings, I wanted to use those cute little charms. I used these tiny little jump rings (basically, small metal circles) to attach the charms to the earring hooks. It was a little fiddly, but I used some pliers to help open and close the jump rings.
  • Step 4: The big finish.Once I had all the beads and charms in place, I made sure everything was secure. I used the pliers again to make sure the jump rings were tightly closed, so nothing would fall off. Then, I simply attached the beaded wire or the jump rings with the charms directly to the earring hooks.

And that’s it! Seriously, it was way easier than I thought. And the best part? They turned out so freakin’ cute! I’ve been rocking them all week, and I’ve gotten so many compliments. It’s like a little piece of my childhood hanging from my ears. Definitely recommend giving it a try if you’re feeling crafty and want to add a little 90s flair to your look.
