Okay, so I’ve been digging into this whole vintage fashion thing lately, and let me tell you, it’s a rabbit hole! I decided to focus my energy on something really iconic, and what’s more iconic than a 1960s Chanel suit? That’s right, nothing!

First things first, I scoured the internet. I mean, I really went deep. I checked out all those fancy online vintage shops. Black seemed to be a popular color, but there were also browns, grays, and beiges, it’s not my style though. Prices? Don’t even get me started! Some of these suits go for thousands of dollars. I saw a bunch ranging from like $2,800 all the way up to $7,500. Crazy, right?
Then I started looking into who actually wore these things back in the day. Turns out, it was all the big names! Elizabeth Taylor, Jane Fonda, Jackie Kennedy they all rocked the Chanel suit. It’s no wonder these suits are so legendary, those are big names, right?
After that, I hit up some local vintage stores and checked their websites. No luck. Lots of cool stuff, but no 1960s Chanel suits. But the search continued!
I also learned a bit about what makes a Chanel suit a Chanel suit. Apparently, there’s this chain sewn into the inside hem of the jacket. That’s supposed to be a sign that it’s the real deal. Also, the design, boxy jacket, no collar, slim skirt, gold buttons, all are the key elements.
The history of it is pretty cool too. Coco Chanel herself started making these two-piece suits way back in the 1920s. They were inspired by men’s clothes and sportswear. Kind of revolutionary for the time, huh?

My Findings
- Expensive: Authentic vintage Chanel suits from the 1960s are pricey.
- Famous Fans: Worn by iconic women like Elizabeth Taylor and Jackie Kennedy.
- Hard to Find: Not easy to find in local vintage stores, at least not in my area.
- Signature Details: Chain in the hem, boxy jacket, no collar, slim skirt, gold buttons.
- Historical Significance: Coco Chanel started the trend in the 1920s, inspired by menswear.
So, did I find my dream 1960s Chanel suit? Not yet. But I’m not giving up! The hunt continues. It’s like a treasure hunt, and I’m determined to find my treasure, even though it’s a little bit expensive. But I think if I can get one, it is worth it. This is my own Chanel suit!
Stay tuned for updates!
