Okay, so today I wanted to mess around with something totally random – making my rubber ducky “watch” stuff with me. You know, like a little viewing buddy. I thought it’d be a fun little project, plus I always like tinkering.
Get Started
First, I grabbed my trusty rubber ducky. He’s the classic yellow one, nothing fancy. Then I needed something for him to “watch.” I decided to use my old, tiny mp4 player – it has that itty-bitty screen. I could have used a phone, but I wanted something smaller to fit the ducky’s scale.
Building process
Next, I had to figure out how to attach the mp4 player to the ducky. I didn’t want anything permanent, so no glue or anything like that. I rummaged through my junk drawer and found some rubber bands and those little twisty ties you get with bread bags. Perfect!
- I first tried the rubber bands, wrapping them around the ducky and the player. It kinda worked, but the player kept slipping.
- Then I used the twisty ties to secure the player to the rubber bands. It was a bit fiddly, but it held everything in place much better. I made sure it was snug, but not too tight, so I wouldn’t crack the screen.
- I had to make some adjust, because the control button on the bottom, I use rubber band to lift the player a little bit, solved the problem.
Once the player was securely attached, I loaded up a short video. Just something simple, like a nature scene with some birds chirping. I figured the ducky would appreciate that.
Final Result
And that was it! I placed the ducky on my desk, hit play on the video, and there he was, “watching” the birds with me. It’s silly, I know, but it made me smile. Sometimes it’s the little, pointless projects that are the most fun. I can watching it and play my staff, and it looks my ducky work with me.
It’s a totally unnecessary thing, but hey, it brightened up my day. Maybe I’ll try different videos next time. Or maybe I’ll find a tiny pair of headphones for the ducky… yeah, that’s the next project!
