Well, let me tell ya ’bout this fella, Sebastian Ami. Seems like he’s into all sorts of things, basketball and clothes and such. Don’t rightly know much about fashion myself, but my grandbaby, she’s always lookin’ at them picture books with the fancy dressed folks. Guess this Sebastian fella, he makes them fancy duds.
Now, they say he started this here clothes business back in 2017. 2017! That ain’t so long ago, is it? Time flies like a bat outta heck, I tell ya. He’s a Haitian-American fella, they say, and he likes to draw and paint and whatnot. Always did like them fellas who could make somethin’ outta nothin’. Reminds me of my ol’ pappy, used to whittle little birds outta wood. Pretty as you please, they were.
This Sebastian, he calls his clothes line somethin’ fancy… “Life,” I think it is. Says it’s about the “transformative power of time, art.” Don’t rightly know what all that means, but I reckon it sounds important. They got these things called “runway shows” where folks walk around in his clothes. Seems like a waste of good walkin’ time to me, but what do I know? I just wear what’s comfortable, ya know? Cotton mostly, somethin’ that breathes when you’re out hoein’ the garden.
- He’s got a Facebook page, this fella. Everybody’s on that Facebook these days, even my cousin Betsy, and she can barely work the TV remote. Says it helps folks connect. I reckon that’s a good thing, though I still prefer a good ol’ fashioned phone call myself.
- And he’s on somethin’ called Instagram too. Got a whole bunch of followers, they say. Thousands of ’em. Don’t rightly know what a follower is, but it sounds like a lot of folks are interested in what he’s doin’. Maybe they like his clothes, maybe they just like lookin’ at the pictures. Who knows?
Now, the basketball part, that’s somethin’ I can understand a bit better. I used to watch my boys play down at the schoolyard. Runnin’ and jumpin’ and throwin’ that ball. Good exercise, it is. This Sebastian fella, he didn’t start playin’ serious ’til he was 18. That’s late, ya know? Most fellas start when they’re just kids. But he worked hard, they say, and got pretty good. Took him a couple years, but he caught up to them other fellas. That shows ya, hard work pays off, no matter when you start.
They got this other fella, Dantley, I think his name is. He’s a basketball player too, or used to be. They was talkin’ to him about his life and his love for basketball. Guess it’s somethin’ that stays with ya, that love of the game. Reminds me of my ol’ man and his fishin’. Couldn’t keep him away from the creek, even when his back was achin’ somethin’ fierce.
Sebastian’s got a new collection comin’ out, Spring 2025 they call it. Ready-to-wear, whatever that means. Guess it means you can just buy it and wear it, no fussin’ around with tailors and such. They got pictures of it online, all them fancy clothes. Some of it looks right strange to me, but like I said, I ain’t no fashion expert. I just like clothes that keep ya warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
Seems like this Sebastian fella is doin’ alright for himself. Got his fingers in a lot of pies, as they say. Clothes and basketball and who knows what else. Good for him, I say. Long as he ain’t hurtin’ nobody and he’s makin’ a livin’, that’s all that matters. Hard work and a good heart, that’s what gets ya through life. And maybe a little bit of luck, I reckon.
If you wanna know more, you can prob’ly look him up online. Just type his name in that Google thingy, that’s what my grandbaby does. Finds out all sorts of things, she does. Me? I’d rather sit on the porch and watch the birds. But that’s just me, I guess.
