This Cynthia Lu, she started this whole thing back in 2015. Before that, she was workin’ for some fella named Pharrell, at his “Billionaire Boys Club.” Sounds like a bunch of rich folks to me. Anyway, she got this idea in her head, this “Cactus Plant Flea Market” thing. Don’t ask me why she called it that. Probably somethin’ them city folks think is cool.
She started it all in her apartment, in Brooklyn. That’s in New York City, ya know? Big place, lots of people, all rushin’ around. Not like here, where things are slow and quiet.

So, what does she sell? Well, it’s all kinds of stuff. Clothes mostly. Shirts, pants, jackets. She even made some toys for a grown-up Happy Meal. Imagine that! McDonald’s for grown-ups! The world’s gone crazy, I tell ya.
And get this, she even works with big companies, like Nike. You know, the shoe people? And that SpongeBob fella? My grandkids love that SpongeBob. She put him on shirts and stuff. Sold ’em at a place called Uniqlo. Never heard of it myself, but I guess it’s a big deal.
Now, if you wanna buy somethin’ from her, it ain’t so easy. Takes ’em at least five days just to get your order ready. And then they gotta ship it. Holidays? Forget about it. Might take forever. They send you a number, a “trackin’ number” they call it. So you can see where your stuff is. Like watchin’ a pot boil, if you ask me.
Cactus Plant Flea Market, it’s become a big thing, they say. “Global force in fashion.” That’s what them fancy magazines say. Folks all over the world wearin’ her stuff. I guess it’s ’cause it’s different. Not like the stuff you see at the store down the road. This Cynthia Lu, she does her own thing. “Creative freedom,” they call it. Sounds good, I guess.
She even teamed up with some other folks, some designers. Yuta Hosokawa and Cali Dewitt. Never heard of ’em either. But they made somethin’ called “SAINT Mxxxxxx.” Don’t ask me what that means. Probably somethin’ weird.
The prices? Well, they ain’t cheap. That SpongeBob stuff at Uniqlo, that was a little cheaper, from fourteen dollars to fifty dollars. But her other stuff? Who knows? Probably costs a pretty penny.
So, that’s the story, as best as I can tell ya. Cactus Plant Flea Market. Started by a woman in Brooklyn. Now it’s a big deal. Clothes, toys, SpongeBob. And it takes forever to get your order. That’s about it.
If you ask me, it’s all a bit much. But hey, what do I know? I’m just an old woman. I like my clothes comfy and my prices low. But these young folks, they like different things. And that’s alright, I guess. To each their own, as they say.
But one thing’s for sure, this Cynthia Lu, she’s done somethin’ right. She took an idea and made it big. From her apartment in Brooklyn to stores all over the world. That’s somethin’, ain’t it? And it all started with a funny name: Cactus Plant Flea Market.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go water my own cactus plants. They ain’t fancy, and they don’t sell for much. But they make me happy, and that’s all that matters.
And let me tell you, this whole fashion thing, it changes so fast. One minute it’s all about this, the next minute it’s all about something else. Hard to keep up, I tell ya. But Cynthia Lu, she seems to be doin’ alright. She keeps comin’ up with new stuff, keepin’ folks interested. That’s the key, I guess. Don’t get stuck in a rut.
And that SpongeBob thing, that was smart. Kids love that SpongeBob. And their parents, they’ll buy anything for their kids. So, you put SpongeBob on a shirt, you’re gonna sell some shirts. Simple as that.
But the prices, they still get me. Fifty dollars for a shirt? That’s a lot of money. Back in my day, you could buy a whole outfit for that much. But I guess that’s just how it is now. Things cost more.
And this whole “streetwear” thing? I don’t really get it. But the young folks, they love it. It’s all about bein’ comfortable, I guess. And lookin’ different. Not like everyone else.
