Okay, so I’ve been seeing this “capsule wardrobe” thing all over Pinterest and decided to give it a shot for fall. My closet was a disaster – I had tons of clothes, but nothing to wear, you know? So, I started by pulling everything out. Seriously, everything. It was like a clothing explosion on my bed.

The Great Closet Purge
Then came the hard part: deciding what to keep. I tried on pretty much everything, which took forever. I asked myself some tough questions:
- “Have I worn this in the last year?” (If the answer was no, it usually went in the “donate” pile.)
- “Does it fit me right now?” (No more “I’ll fit into this someday” stuff!)
- “Do I feel good in this?” (This was surprisingly important.)
- “Is easy to match with other clothes?”(If I need to buy other clothes to wear with it, it is not the one.)
I ended up with three piles: keep, donate, and maybe. The “maybe” pile was stuff I wasn’t quite ready to part with, so I put it in a box in the attic. If I don’t miss it in a few months, it’s gone.
Building the Capsule
Next, I looked at what was left. I focused on neutral colors like black, gray, white, and beige, with a few pops of color like burgundy and olive green (because it’s fall, duh!). I made sure I had a good mix of basics:
- A few good quality t-shirts
- A couple of cozy sweaters
- A classic pair of jeans (dark wash, of course)
- A black blazer (for when I need to look a little more put together)
- A versatile skirt
- A warm coat
- A pair of boots and some comfy sneakers
I also made sure most of my tops could be matching with almost every bottom.
The Result
Honestly, it’s been amazing. Getting dressed in the morning is SO much easier. I feel like I have way more outfits, even though I have fewer clothes. And my closet looks so much cleaner! I’m still tweaking things here and there, but I’m definitely a capsule wardrobe convert. Would recommend that anyone can try this at home!
